Universal Studios The Bye Bye Man (2017)

Quote:
The face of horror is not always the face of a stranger. Three college friends decide to move off campus into an old house. What they did not know when they signed the lease is that unimaginable horrors had taken place at the house in the past. They also did not know that it is haunted by a supernatural entity known only to his victims as The Bye Bye Man. Anyone that learns The Bye Bye Man's name can become his victim. Anyone that learns his name can also become a killer. Can the friends save themselves and the world?

They should add "Don't Watch It" to that cover art.

I've read some decidedly unfavorable things about The Bye Bye Man, but I'll probably check it out anyway.

Horror movies are like pizza. Even the bad ones are pretty good.

They should have had that song in the movie. But I guess the licensing rights would have been more than half the budget.

I'm guessing you haven't seen many truly bad ones.

Have you seen my movie collection?

I love Blood Rage and Mortuary, so it's probably safe to say that I'll enjoy The Bye Bye Man.

Of course, Rob Zombie's Halloween is truly truly bad, so I guess that there are a few ones out there that I don't enjoy.

I'm the same way when it comes to horror and pizza.

I was very frustrated by this film. The acting and look of the film were very good. On the other hand, there is some really terrible cgi and the script never really seems to get where it wants to go. This is a rushed studio film, but the director and actors have some talent.

Is it just me, or does anyone else here feel the need to see The Bye Bye Man and La La Land back to back?

Bye Bye Man
La La Land
Bye Bye Man
La La Land
Bye Bye Man
La La Land
...

Oh God, I can't take it anymore! It has to be done.

One thing is for certain. If I end up owning both of these on Blu-ray, then you better believe that they're going to be side by side on my shelf.

Bye Bye Man
La La Land
Bye Bye Man
La La Land
Bye Bye Man
La La Land

...I just...can't...stop...

Interestingly, this was delayed several times (and was recut from an R to a PG-13 in the process) so any problems with CG or editing could have been fixed.

And the director did make one other film (The Last Supper, with Cameron Diaz and Courtney B. Vance) 21 years earlier that got some decent reviews. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sony prepping a BD-R of that one in the near future.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't be surprised to see this release include the original R-rated cut (but probably no Atmos mix, of which the film was initially advertised to have one but the edited release version only had 5.1). Universal is a bit better than Sony with including alternate cuts.

Hopefully the BD does include the R rated cut.

As lame as the movie was, I really would like to see the R-Rated cut.

Maybe it was a rather different movie altogether before it was butchered into the current existing Studio Executive Friendly version we were miserably forced to watch....or maybe it still sucks even in it's R-Rated cut form, but who knows?

I did this yesterday (well, with a few hours between them). Loved La La Land, but also enjoyed The Bye Bye Man immensely (having low expectations and seeing it alongside a theater full of screaming teenagers helped).

Holy shit this movie is awful. Worst acting and writing I've ever seen in something release theatrically(the lead actress is so bad, it needs to be seen). That said, it's pretty hilarious. Definitely worth watching if you like fun bad movies.

Also, how the hell did Faye Dunaway end up in this?!?

Uhhhhh....unrated cut eh?

Here's hoping its a marginal improvement on the laughably bad theatrical cut.
