Default Questions about using a 4K Player on a 1080p TV

Currently I don't have a 4K player or 4K TV. Since I spent quite a bit on my current main TV that I got about 3-ish years ago, it's going to be a good few years before I upgrade it.

I've been buying 4K combo packs whenever possible of movies that I've purchased since the format launched, so I can use the regular Blu-Ray now and will have the 4K disc for later.

If the same transfer of the movie is being used for both the 4K disc and the regular Blu-Ray, then using the regular Blu-Ray is fine for now. But in some instances, like the recent release of the Dark Knight films in 4K, the 4K discs use a much better, newer transfer, but the Blu-Ray discs are the same old transfers, which had some issues.

I'm thinking about getting a 4K player to hook to my 1080p TV to be able to watch the discs with the nice, new transfers. I know I won't get the full benefit of HDR and the 4K resolution, but being able to watch the 4K discs with the newer transfer will (hopefully) allow me to get the most that I can with my current TV.

So I'm starting this thread to get some thoughts and advice from anyone "in the know." Are there any major issues or drawbacks (besides just not being able to use HDR or 4K resolution) that I should be aware of? Are there any compatibility issues, or should just hooking a player up to my TV work fine?

Is there any player that is better than another for this purpose? I personally would like to avoid buying any Samsung brand player mainly due to past bad experience with their Blu-Ray and DVD players, but I'm otherwise open to the other options out there.

Any advice would be appreciated.
