First one that comes to mind is the Blade Runner briefcase. Giant set with 5 different cuts of the same film. WB has been putting out a lot of giant gift sets like the 75th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz, The Nutty Professor, & Ben Hur.
Of course, the grand daddy of sets is the Harry Potter Wizard's Collection, but that's not for a single film. |

I am the proud owner of the Lawrence of Arabia limited edition set. That box must be like a whole square foot big. Not much swag in it though; just the movie, bonus discs, film cell, booklet, digital copy, and CD soundtrack.
I also have the BR briefcase, but it was for the DVD (got the Blu-Ray set separately and added it to the case later ![]() I think those WB UCEs must hold the record for having the most stuff. Haven't invested in any myself, but the Wizard of Oz and A Christmas Story sets look pretty excessive. Last edited by Al_The_Strange; 03-19-2014 at 10:08 PM. |

The Apocalypse Now: Full Disclosure Edition is up there. 3 BDs with 2 cuts of the film both with commentary, fully loaded with a dedicated disc of new behind-the-scenes extras and another dedicated disc with a rare documentary film and even more extras.
The Taxi Driver digipack is also pretty loaded for a 1-BD release. 3 audio commentaries, a full-length documentary and a bunch of extra featurettes. Sony may be stingy with the official back catalogue releases, but when they do put something out, they certainly know how to make it worth your money. ETA: If you're counting swag, then yeah, the various WB Ultimate Collector's Editions probably take the collective prize. Though I did like that Jurassic Park one which came with a replica of the dino containment unit, but I think that was for all 3 movies. Last edited by Alexander the Drake; 03-19-2014 at 09:30 PM. |

The only one that I can really chime in on is The Dark Knight Rises (Bat Cowl Edition) that seems like an over the top treatment. I never even opened it because I also own the Steel. But from what I've read you get a decent amount of "goodies" with it.

Most over the top would have to be the iRobot head edition that cost several hundred dollars. I think runner ups would be the Predator or Terminator Head editions.
Of course, it all depends on what you consider 'over the top'. Many consider steelbooks over the top or fancy collector's editions with books, soundtracks, more making-of's, several cuts, etc. over the top but I just consider it a part of what it means to be a giant film buff and collector. I would sort of think the 5 Disc Blade Runner edition would qualify as such to many people but I just consider it one of the most 'complete'. |

It's not a film, but the Game of Thrones third season dragon stone set seems a bit over the top, for a tv show anyway. I bought it though, because its a pretty over the top tv show and its great. The new 75th wizard of oz set is indeed overkill. I think i'd say Frozen too, when you count all the exclusives, and the different figurines at walmart.

I was just thinking myself the other day, what a huge waste of space the Ben Hur and Casablanca sets were. Actually most of the Warner UCE are a waste of space.
I actually really like some of Sony's early ones, in particular Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Bridge on River Kwai. Small, compact.. no "junk"... just very nice packages. It's a shame that Sony didn't do more of those types of CE's before they (mostly) dropped out of doing catalogue. It seems like nowadays most everything is just barebones in an eco case, or just Warner occasionally doing their rediculously oversized UCE's. |

As far as supplements, etc., I'd agree with the Blade Runner UCE. Five cuts, hours and hours of extras. Would love it if each Star Wars film was given that kind of treatment.
Otherwise, Watchmen received a shit ton of releases and ancillary tie-ins that don't seem befitting for one film. Animated short tie-in, motion comic tie-in, director's cut release, ultimate cut release, ultimate cut re-release. |

The Town Ultimate Collector's Edition is cool, but it has the fake FBI files with all those pointless documents and case briefings, as well as a book that discusses the sets, making of, and different facts. It also has I believe 3 or 4 different cuts of the film: Theatrical, Extended, Extended with Alternate Ending. Don't get me wrong though, I love it and I own it.
