Onkyo TX SR705 and Sammy BDP1200

Here's the scenario....

I have an Onkyo 705 and the Samsung 1200, and every time I skip forward in the menu on the 1200, my receiver makes a clicking noise like it is losing signal from the BD player.

has anyone else experienced this?

Not on my Yamaha & Sammy BD-P1200.

Does anything change on the display of your reciever when it clicks???

This is pretty normal if your settings are a particular way. There is a way to avoid it, however. If you go into your Onkyo setup menu, Under audio settings, instead of setting your preferred audio format to a particular type, set it to "Last Valid". What is happening is you -are- losing audio signal for a moment, so the receiver resets back from the format you were listening to to the format you have set as your preference, then switches back again when the audio signal is re-established. You will hear this clicking sound whenever a the audio format is changed from the previously set one.

ok, so i've gone into my setup and everything is already set to Last Valid, so there is nothing for me to change....any other ideas?

Check the settings in your player, there might be a similar setting.
Is your players output set to bitstream or pcm? with the onkyo, you should set it to bitstream in your player.

why would i set this to bitstream? Isnt PCM better? I have everything hooked up via HDMI.

I have a SR875 and A sammy 1200... I have the same problem also if a movie is paused or goes from one track to another there is a short sound drop out ... I use bitstream as the sound is Cr@p in PCM for some reason ????

because it cannot decode (Dolby TrueHD or Dts-HD) the only lossless audio from this player is Uncompressed PCM. But you can have it set on Bitstream, it will automatically play as Linear PCM.

So, yes, keep set as bitstream.

At last an answer to my problem the co I bought mine off didnt have a clue ... although its being collected in the morning for open heart surgery as the display has gone tits up

well, some bluray players have gained internal decoding ability from firmware updates (ex. Sony BDP-S1)...but weather Samsung can or will provide an update is beyond me.

As far as bitstream ability of the new codecs, I believe that has more to do with hardware (hdmi chip used), so probably not gonna happen.

Yes your right ... im still awaiting a firmware update for POTC3 and DH4 etc so I won't hold my breath for a useful update ...

I've got a Sammy 1000 with less problems ... Im going to get a PS3 but as a question ... does PS3 have the same audio video & hdmi 1.3 stuff as stand alone in other words are they as good ????

the PS3 is HDMI 1.3. It can decode Dolby TrueHD, but not Dts-HD Ma...yet.

sorry not is it any good .. is it AS good as a stand alone ...

So the DTS=HD and True HD can be added with a firmware update ???

Also finally is the PS3 likely to be changed or upgraded in anyway this year ..

I'm P##sed off with Sammy keep ugrading their players ... I paid $700 for my 1200 in June now the 1400 is under $300

Sorry I do not own a standalone. (and I only watch movies on my PS3, im not a gamer) But it plays flawless.

Dolby TrueHD is already supported. But we are still waiting on support for Dts-HD Master...and it has been said that a firmware update should allow internal decoding.

Also finally is the PS3 likely to be changed or upgraded in anyway this year ..

Yes, bluray profile 2.0 will be coming. Divx support was just added etc. Can only imagine whats next!

Yes, the PS3 is as good as a stand-alone. If you're comparing it to the 1200, it will not, quite, upscale SD DVD's as well, since the 1200 has that wonderful Reon processor.

If you're asking if the PS3 can be FW updated for DTS HD MA and True HD, it already passes True HD via PCM. It will likely get an upgrade to pass DTS HD MA ditto. Unknown if it will ever do either codec via bitstream as no one seems able to determine of the chipset will do so.

If you're asking if the 1200 can be FW updated for DTS HD MA and True HD, the answer is "no". Although it is HDMI 1.3 compliant, the player's core chipset is incapable of handling those audio codecs.

I'll let others comment on other likely PS3 upgrades, but I will say Sony is constantly upgrading capabilities.
