Default Hammer Studio's Pirates Of Blood River (1962) - 10/17/17 from Twilight Time

Not their best, but it features Chris Lee in an eyepatch and with a French dialect- that must count for something. Andrew Keir and Michael Ripper and Oliver Reed as well. I have a soft spot for Hammer's pirate movies as Saturday/Sunday afternoon fare.

It's fine. I think it functions better as a double feature with Devil Ship Pirates, as they compliment each other pretty well and have aspects that make up for the failings of the other. Also, they both have Christopher Lee as the evil captain.

I really hope they aren't sitting on/didn't turn down the masterpiece that is These Are the Damned. The other two huge ones from those two Sony sets are at least coming out in the UK.

Disappointed to see this coming from Twilight Time as it will be $30 but being a Christopher Lee fan I am glad to see it getting a Blu-ray release, hopefully Devil-Ship Pirates is coming as well.

Right, I'm not even going to think about it at 30 bucks. If it was the aforementioned double feature I would. Otherwise, going to wait it out for a year or two until it goes in their discount bin.

I'm a Hammer fan but $30 for a pirate movie? Not a chance.

I'll get to it eventually for my aforementioned reasons, but yeah, its a better double feature with Devil Ship. Tbh, I was kinda hoping for the marginally improved quality of a mill creek release of both discs of the Icons Of Adventure set, but I'll bite when the price is right.

I was hoping for a Mill Creek double feature as well, especially since the last Mill Creek Hammers only cost about $6-7 dollars at release.

Don't bank on it.
Indicator have 14 Hammer films.
The Sony Icons sets are 14 films and Revenge of Frankenstein isn't one of them.
So as Indicator have announced ROF as one of their titles that would assume that at least one of the titles in the Icons sets won't be released by Indicator.

Seems unlikely TT would select this movie if they had a choice of all the Sony Hammer films yet for some reason Mill Creek don't have it.

If it's a new transfer I'd be interested.
If it's the HD master used for the DVD on Blu....meh.

The commentary track on the DVD is pretty good, Jimmy Sangster while he was still pretty sharp chatting with Marcus Hearn. Hopefully TT gets this as an extra.

I think it's their best adventure film, Lee is brilliant, as usual.

I'm tempted, but I think it'll get a UK release next year.

Default New Cover Art

Revised cover art for The Pirates of Blood River.

Perhaps not coincidentally, this treasure is for those true buccaneers who still prowl the Spanish Main and know that today is Talk Like a Pirate Day.....aaar, matey.

I hear tell this bit of swag was going to be the booklet cover, but Twilight Time brought a spring upon her cable and switched her about. Shiver me timbers, tis true, lads. The previous art will now be decoratin' the inside book.

Now all ye scallywags and bilge rats who be complainin', any further foul words out of ye and I'll see ye kiss the gunner's daughter.

I've never seen this film before, and since I've been on a huge kick lately building my Hammer library, I ordered it. It's on sale right now at Screen Archives for $15.
