Alright, so on Surf's Up, I noticed the audio drop out for a millisecond right after the opening logo. Actually it drops out on the PCM and there's a pop on the TrueHD track...
Last night I was watching Meet The Robinsons and there's a TON of audio drop outs. It always occurs when there's a cut in the movie. And it's also only on PCM. I tried the Dolby Digital track and it's fine. Anyone else experience anything like this? |

sounds like a receiver problem to me. My receiver changes the output based on the input.. so if he detects a change it will switch over. But it sounds like yours is changing when it shouldn't. Make sure the audio option has PCM (or whatever the highest quality is) selected on the BD. It is possibly something wrong with the receiver or the HDMI connection. Make sure it is all well connected with no stress on the cords.

It's not the reciever. I just plugged the PS3 directly into the TV and the same problem in the same spots occur. I also think that if it was stress on the cords or if it was a problem with the HDMI then A) It would do it for Dolby Digital and B) it wouldn't do it in the same spots every time.

By chance do you have a JVC receiver? Mine is a PAIN...it clicks constantly when changing video resolutions or starting/stopping a game or movie on my PS3...luckily I haven't had any audio issues.
Piece of crap...don't think I can get it replaced either because it was refurbished. |

I doubt this is a bad disc, since Clayton mentioned he had similar issues with at least two discs. It appears to be a problem with the the PS3 if Clayton is certain the receiver is not the culprit.

But my reciever is the Yamaha HTR-5990. I figured it was something to do with the sound mix on Surf's Up (I still think it is, since it's barely noticable) but now with this one doing it every couple of minutes... I'll exchange it later and let you all know what happens. |

Alright so here's the scoop... The Audio does NOT drop out on my BDP-S1. The only thing I have set up differently is that my reciever (Yamaha RXV-2500) doesn't have HDMI. So I have it connected via toslink. So... I am guessing it's either A) my PS3 or B) the HDMI cable from my PS3 to my reciever/TV. Since I checked my HDMI cable and there's nothing wrong with it, and it also does it in the same spots and only with LPCM, I am saying it's the PS3. So I'll wait for the next firmware upgrade just to see if that does anything, and then after that I'll take the PS3 in. So hopefully there's a firmware upgrade soon so that I don't have to bring my BDP-S1 down here (I don't have room!)

I had something like that happen with my dvdo vp50 video processor when it first came out. Audio would drop out in the same identical place on certain dvds. It drove me crazy for a month till firmware fixed it. I still don't understand how I could get dropout in the same spot every time.

If you are using an optical connection for the audio there will be a drop every time the bit rate changes. If you are using HDMI for audio there should be zero drop out. I also watched Meet The Robinsons last night, no problems what so ever. Using a 60GB PS3 with Premium HDMI 1.3 cables.
At Wal Mart as long as you have a sales recipt you should have no problem returning the disc for a replacement or refund. When I bought my PS3 [back in Nov. 2006] I HAD to buy a totally lame PS3 bundle VIA Wal Mart.com, it was the only place I could find a PS3 in stock. I took everything back to my local Wal Mart except the actual PS3 unit & had no problem getting 100% credited back to my credit card. |
