Default Sony player supposedly in stock but in the end not

This is probably going to jinx it, but what the hell.

Just ordered the Sony player with next day delivery as www.dvdcity.com has it in stock. Talked on the phone with the rep and ensured that if ordering today with next day would get it to me for tomorrow and he said it definitely would.

This'll be my 3rd player after owning the Samsung and getting my preorder for the PS3 in.

:giddy:

DVD City *is* an authorized online reseller fwiw.

It is interesting that it claims DVD-R playback since the Samsung does not.

It will be even more interesting if it manages BD image on DVD-R playback since this is the mode that I use my HD-A1 in the most

I too called DVDCity.com and talked with Jason (888) 965-6400 who confirmed that "they have in their warehouse, physical inventory, a sufficient quantity on hand" of the Sony BDP-S1 and are "shipping now", without delays or postponements. So, here's your opportunity to acquire the first USA available players.

Default Just ordered mine last night . . .

I ordered a BDP-S1 at my local Tweeter.

The salesman told me that their system shows 1600 units due in their warehouse (regional?) on Nov 2nd.

He did say there was a real possibility of it coming in earlier. I hope so.

Well, the money went out of the account damn fast. I've used DVD City many times in the past so I'm very comfortable with them. This should be a good weekend.

And of course 20 minutes later I get an email indicating it was canceled because they only had one in stock and it was damaged. Waiting for a call back to get this figured out.

Not happy.

Damn that sucks. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the Sony. Hopefully you can get one soon.

The further I get into it (still waiting on the call), a rep has said that any indication that was in stock is not accurate and the rep I spoke with this morning likely had out of date info.

Not real accurate since it's a pre-release, but hey, they'll BS with what they know. What really terks me off is that they already withdrew the funds and it takes up to 48 hours for them to do the chargeback.

So basically, they now say they have NONE in stock.

Well Chris, I guess those of us who are Sony dealers must go by what Sony says and not the internet brokers. I called my Sony rep last night and the availability and distribution is still trageted for mid-November, regardless what others 'outside' of Sony Corporation are saying. There's nothing shipping !!!

As I mentioned at the top of the thread, the place I was dealing with IS an authorized sony dealer. They simply mucked up on what they had in their inventory listing. My issue isn't that, but that they used some simple inconsistent BS with their reason why the order was canceled and had withdrawn the funds before verifying properly anything in stock.

Your criticism of "internet brokers" seems misplaced since this company is basically in the same position you are. Maybe I'm misreading some negativity in your post in response to mine that I can't quite grasp.

Yes, your misreading it. Sony has made very clear 'the when' their Blu-Ray player will go to market, be it a retail store, a mass merchandiser like Circuit City or Best Buy, and the authorized internet outlets. I called DVDCity and they told me "Yes, we have it in stock, in our warehouse, and we're shipping right now". His name was Jason. It is for this exact reason I am skeptical of internet offerings, no real confirmation of the existence of your product interest at the time of purchase, as you are now experiencing. A custom home entertainment store like ours has something at stake more so that the internet merchant - Trustworthyness and Credibility, which to us results in multiple referrels, yielding new business without even having to advertise. Quality products, expert consultation and support, professional installation and service, are what distinguishes the wheat from the chaff. I don't apologize for my commitment and convictions.

They have allocated for my store throughout the entire holiday season 20 BDP-S1 units and I have 8 pre-sold, leaving but 2 per week for Thanksgiving through the end of the year. Because we sell alot of Qualia 004 Projectors, and the VPL-100 Projectors, consideration beyond our allocation is expected.

Jim

ps: One thing for certain, I will let everyone here know when I have 'physical custody in my warehouse (2nd floor of my store) of these players' and not until then. I promise no smoke and mirrors !!!
