My favorite musical

Scorsese's "New York, New York" is hella underrated, and it's almost the true precursor of La La Land.
You all should watch it.

I'd echo what many already said- (Little Shop, Nightmare Before Christmas, Wizard of Oz, Producers, Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, Repo (the guiltiest of pleasures for me)).

I'd also humbly submit Once. It's not a musical in the traditional sense, but music plays such a strong part in it that it almost constitutes (plus they made a Broadway musical from it, so I count it.) While not as strong, one of the director's follow-ups, Begin Again, is saccharine sweet and has some catchy tunes. Been meaning to watch Sing Street, another of his films.
