The Kids in the Hall - 'The Complete Collection' Returns to DVD, with 'Death Comes To Town' Included!
Between 2004 and 2006, A&E Home Video released the five seasons of the show individually, and finished with a complete series megaset of the show. Then, in 2011, they revisited it with the Death Comes to Town mini-series. Those items have gone out of print, however, and as such it can be quite pricey for fans to acquire the entire program. Now, with word being reported that Lorne Michaels wants to bring the show back, our friends at Mill Creek Entertainment are going back to the 1989 comedy program and bringing out their release of Kids In The Hall - The Complete Collection. Scheduled for release on February 6th, the 14-disc set will include uncensored episodes, plus the 2010 mini-series The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town. Digital copies of the episodes are also included as a bonus, via MCE's proprietary digital streaming service, "Watch Mill Creek." You'll additionally get these special features: Audio Commentaries Compilation Episodes Archival Footage Full Sketch Listings Cast Bios AND MORE! Price for all of this is just $69.98 SRP! More details are expected to come in the following week or so, when Mill Creek Entertainment sends over their official press release about Kids In The Hall - The Complete Collection. ![]() http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...vshowsondvdcom |

Including the full pilot actually makes this a slight upgrade on previous sets. It was available as a standalone disc, but never included in any other release. I like the idea of taking up less shelf space, but I wonder if the reduced number of discs means more compression on the transfers...

Yeah it's $40 at AMAZON right now. I expect it to be in the $20-$25 range not too long after it's released.

It doesn't, but your confusion is understandable. The season one set includes two "Best of" episodes, one of which has a lot of clips from the pilot, and the marketing material plays this aspect up to a degree where I'm sure a lot of people believed the pilot itself was included.

I have the original A&E sets of the original series as well as Death Comes to Town, and the separate pilot DVD.
This new Mill Creek set says "uncensored." Were the original releases censored? Does this just mean that they won't 'bleep' out swear words that were originally 'bleeped' out? Given that it's a Mill Creek release, I anticipate that it will be pretty cheap to obtain not long after release, so I don't necessarily mind double-dipping. But I'm really only interested in doing so if there's at least some difference in the on-disc contents that make this worth double-dipping on. Having all of the content digitally does ad a little value to it. I don't like relying on digital as my main way of buying content (as a rule, I pretty much only redeem codes that come with physical releases), but having it as an option is nice. |

I am not gonna buy this, but I am glad the stuff is back in print, and I'm annoyed that the pilot isn't being sold separately because it's the one disc I never picked up. Last edited by thatguamguy; 01-19-2018 at 07:49 PM. |

This new set is a total of 12 discs. The A&E season sets of the original series were 4 discs each. Death Comes to Town was 2 discs. So, that's 22 discs right there, and that doesn't include the pilot (though that alone likely won't take up too much more additional space). That's a difference of 10 fewer discs, which will translate to a lot of compression by comparison. Even if I do get this, I don't see myself getting rid of my existing sets. |

I have heard that the Mill Creek "Newsradio" set is completely missing "The Injury", I guess balancing out the fact that it was on both season 2 and season 3 when Sony (I think?) released it.

It is a great sketch show, but being a great sketch show is kind of like being a great hitter in baseball -- you still strike out more than you connect. If you already like Foley and MacDonald, you'll probably find a lot to like in this show, they were sort of a writing pair.

If it follows the original discs, there should be audio commentaries on all 9 of the "best of" episodes, plus 101, 105, and 108 of Death Comes to Town and a video commentary on the pilot.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn showed the preview cut of "Brain Candy" on Friday, with a Q&A with Kevin MacDonald. Unfortunately, it was just the same multi-generation VHS dub that has been floating around on-line for a while now. Worse, according to KMac, Paramount destroyed all copies of the original cut and the VHS copy, which was made by a random fan in the editing department and gradually leaked out, is the only existing one. So even if someday somebody (presumably Shout) manages to get the license from Paramount to release a special edition, I don't think the extra footage will ever look any better than the circulating fan copy.
