Default The James Bond 4K Collection + non-EON Bond films

This is probably going to come out sometime this year to tie in with the 60th anniversary of Dr. No (1962), at least I hope so.

Let me start the discussion by posing a few questions.

-Will this be a massive 25 film set or will the films be released by actor like the Daniel Craig set?

I hoping for something compact like the 2015 set but with better artwork. The Bond 50 set had better artwork but was too big to fit in my collection.

-Will the non-EON Bond films Casino Royale, (1967) and Never Say Never Again (1983) be included? Do you think these two films will even get a 4k restoration?

I hope these two get 4k releases, even if they are released separately.

-What kind of new extras would you like to see?

Personally I would love to see an official release of the work print version of The Living Daylights, most likely as an SD extra. Also a restored version of Casino Royale (1954) with a commentary.

My guess is a big collection with all 25 EON films. I'm in the minority who always thought the Bond 50 art was tacky, so hoping it's classier than that. This is probably my #1 most wanted release so I'm hoping and praying it becomes a reality this year!

Yeah the Ultimate James Bond Collection artwork was just boring

Bond 50 was okay, better than the two above imo

But my favorites were the Best Buy Steelbooks as they matched the title sequences, something like this would be great.

I cannot see Casino Royale or Never Say Never Again ever being included. I’d hope for a set with all 25 films.

I myself have Bond 50. I don’t typically like having odd sized collections, but I will say that this collection is very handsome.

No idea what form it'll take, but I'm hoping for actor themed sets.

The non-EON films will not be included. NSNA has already been done in 4K.

Doubt there will be any new extras, nothing of consequence anyway.

Casino Royale '67 and Never Say Never Again are perfect titles for an outfit like Kino. NSNA already has a 4K version up on the streaming platforms.

For my part, I'd prefer to see more chronological sets. I wasn't a big fan of the approach they've taken of releasing 4-5 random titles every six months or every few years. I loved the Ultimate Edition DVDs (though they had many errors), but disliked that they were out of order.

I think 5 titles per volume would make for a good mix of titles.

Honestly, I'm just hoping for something big and sexy like the Bond 50 set. Not really a fan of the franchise being split up according to actor (or even worse, the collections which just feature a random assortment of titles). It'd be nice if they discovered the Connery-era trims which were imposed by the BBFC, but I know it's a total pipe dream.

Also, the unofficial Bond titles can die in a fire.

I agree,I’d prefer a box set. But they could release actor sets aswell to keep everybody happy. The unofficial bonds will not be in my collection but lots of fans like them so maybe they could release them in a double pack if all parties concerned could agree on everything to keep the fans of those films happy.

Eon kept the negatives conformed to the uncut versions in the cases in which the films were censored only in the UK (LtK, GE, etc). The early Connery films were released worldwide as in the UK so, for better or worse, those are the final cuts. Those trims are long gone.

I'd keep CR '67 away from the fire if only because it's such a wonderful mess (it could've been a good film if there'd been any talent behind the camera rather than in front of it) and you know what? It's not even a Bond film. No such character one could identify as Fleming's appears anywhere in that film, David Niven is a completely different persona.

But the negative of NSNA and all existing prints could be lost forever and the world would be a slightly better place. Andthe '54 teleplay of CR should have never been preserved/recovered. It should've died after its live broadcast.

but do you think MGM would be willing to license the two films to Kino? I know that EON or at least Barbara Broccoli has a disdain for the two movies (mainly due to the legal problems they caused) so it's unlikely they would be involved with releasing them.

I do remember some time ago KL Insider mentioned that two properties MGM wouldn't license out were Bond and Rocky. This of course was before Kino released Mad Max on 4k, which I never thought would happen to be honest.

If Kino does release the two on 4k then they will most likely be BD100 discs which is always nice.

Don't know if EON is really holding those films captive like that. They did remaster NSNA which shows they're willing to pay it some respect.

I can understand EON respecting NSNA because of Sean Connery as it serves as his last Bond outing. Also I like to think of it as a non-canon bridge between the official Connery Bond films and The Rock.

CR54 gave them problems even before Dr. No was made. Had Fleming not sold the rights for CR shortly after the book came out, Connery's first Bond film would probably have been CR. I think CR67 was more salt in the wound as its existence prevented the rights from expiring and an official CR from happening for almost 40 years.

I hope for proper transfers and improvements over the Lowry nightmares on the original 20. I’ve long since given up hope they will present the original audio on 1-16 in good quality.

Actual cases and including the EoN documentary would be great.

NSNA is in need of a transfer overhaul. But CR 67 needs it badly. In fact it needs 4k which would be gorgeous along with the original mono.

If it ever happens (which i doubt) then I guess it would be the whole set.

Would much prefer individual releases or, failing that, actor themed (though would they really release a 2 film boxset of Dalton!).

I’m down for every Moore. 3 out of 4 Brosnan. 2 out of 2 Dalton and 1 out of 5 Craig.

That’s only half the Bond movies so hard to justify buying the full box set.

I’m getting the 4K collection regardless as 007 is my favorite movie series, but I just hope it’s aesthetically pleasing and not cardboard sleeves. The Blu Ray set I have currently is so boring. It’s just 3 Blu ray cases with a white paper in them listing the movies and years. That DVD set with Dr No thru Die Another Day was great looking, even if it was out of order.

Also none of those non-Eon movies please lol

I hope the Bond 60 4K box set comes in summer (e.g. July) or October.

The theatrical run of all the Bonds that's just kicked off in the UK ends in October, so if we were to get UHDs, I imagine it'd be close to that time.
