Angry I've had it with Wal-Mart!

I'm not much of shopper at their stores anyway, because it's an unpleasant shopping experience even though they are known for low prices.

Any Wal-Mart that I've gone into is typically:
  • dirty
  • sprawling
  • disorganized (at least their movies, games, music areas)

So I tend to avoid them.

Unfortunately someone thought they were doing me a favor and gave me a Wal-Mart giftcard at Christmas. In trying to use this giftcard, I've run into several obstacles that have shown me some of the ugly, customer-unfriendly side of Wal-Mart.

First I was going to buy a game that was on sale at Best Buy, but decided to get them to price-match it. At first they said no. Then later, "If you bring in the ad". Well I brought in the Best Buy ad that I printed from my computer. They denied it again and said I needed the "original".

Next, I tried to buy a Blu-ray with it. Since I got a Disney coupon for $5 off any Disney Blu-ray, I tried using that. "Oh no, we don't honor those." WTF??

Then finally I said "Well, there's really nothing else I want to use this giftcard for, so how 'bout a refund?" I then waited in their "Cusomer Service" line for ~20 minutes. When I asked for refund for the giftcard, it was "No, we don't do that."

A co-worker told me that nobody refunds giftcards, so that may not be a Wal-Mart issue. But BestBuy is much nicer about accepting coupons and matching other stores' prices.

I guess the cheap place is not always the best.

WAL-MART is one of the worst businesses in the U.S. in my opinion. Unfortunately there are still way too many rednecks and dirty people that shop there for anything to happen to it. People wonder why our economy blows...

The only good thing about Walmart is the cheap prices on a lot of items.... that's it.

Try selling the giftcard on ebay or something. I think in California they have to refund you the money on gift cards.

We used to go to Walmart for the "teeth and tattoo" watch

The rednecks all come out on Friday night @ 11 PM in their pajamas to shop at Walmart. See if you can count a full mouth of teeth and see how many tattoos you can spot...

Honestly, 90% of the items that are "cheaper" at walmart are like 12 cents cheaper. i.e. I can buy a PS3 game at Target for $59.99 or go to walmart and get it for $59.88. Everything's like that. Those ipod commercials with walmart piss me off because they say the prices are so much better than other stores. Excuse me, but $1.01 off an ipod is not worth my time in your crappy store.

You are better of using the gift card to buy groceries at Walmart.

Oh dear God no!!! Stay away from their food section, especially meats. The lady across the street (an older retired lady) works there so she can supplement her social security, and she tells me horror stories about all kinds of nasty shit that happens to their groceries. The people that work there won't even buy their groceries.

I don't shop there at all. Here it's like a flea market in Guatamala.

About the gift card, not sure if you can buy something useless and return it for cash or not. You could always give it to someone else as a present (like a fruitcake nobody really wants).

Wal mart sells visa gift cards, which can be used anywhere visa is accepted. Buy one using your gift card. Then use that money where ever you want.

Cmon I don't mean those kind of groceries. Pick up some beers, sodas, cereal, chips anything of that sort. Hell you always need toilet paper!!! Not as glamorous as a blu-ray but you need it.

yeah, my friends mom once worked there. Said the way they handle meats is absolutely disgusting. Sometimes they just repackage meats if they "look good" to extend the sell by date... ew

The cheap stores are fine as long as you don't expect them to jump through hoops to serve your own cheapness.

And the obligatory, "just because you don't like your Wal*Mart, that does make it representative of all Wal*Marts."

Wal-Mart has, what I call, the "Blue vest" syndrome. As long as employees has one of those "May I help you?" blue vests, they feel as if they aren't obligated to say anything to you.

I agree, Wal-Mart isn't my favorite store either. Whenever I go there, all I see are rednecks and old people. What really annoys me is their $5 DVD bin. Now, I like cheap DVDs but I hear these SHELVES are a little more civilized. I feel like a dumb*** digging around in a huge bin for cheap DVDs. Most of the DVDs are out of the hub that holds them anyway due to them being carelessly thrown around. I will admit though, I sometimes find good deals on DVDs on the rare occasions I go there. My Wal-Mart also has a pretty weak Blu-ray selection.

I haven't shopped at Wal-mart for 7 years. They nearly ruined the DVD format with their insistance of having Studios put out 'Fullscreen' versions of the movie. Well some took that so far as to only release the movie in a pan and scan full screen version. *cough*Warner*cough*. If it wasn't for the massive petitions and influence of forums (back in the day they did have influence) we probably wouldn't have got them to release the widescreen version. But the damage was done. Blockbuster would usually only get in the fullscreen of a movie to save space. Some stores would stock both, but a lot of times the widescreen would be sold out.

I have a feeling they will try the same thing with HDM and fullscreen this time being 16x9. I'll never support that store.
