Default Wal-Mart Online vs Wal-Mart In Store

I was all set to buy Starship Troopers the other day. I checked my local PX and they wanted $29! No way! Amazon has it for $19.95.

So I called my local Wal-Mart. They had it for the same price as the PX (plus tax).

So I then checked Wal-Mart online. They were selling Starship Troopers for only $18.96. I called back to Wal-Mart and they said they do not price match themselves!?!?!?!!??!

Now I can understand not price matching Amazon or Circuit City or such, but themselves?!?! Why would anyone pay over $10 more for a movie from Wal-Mart when you can get the same movie for a way cheaper price at the same company?

It is like they are trying to get me to NOT BUY from the Brick & Mortar store.

What's the difference to the overall Wal-Mart where I buy it? In the end the money goes to Wal-Mart. Why make the person who actually goes into your store pay more? Not just a buck or two, but over $11 by the time you add in tax.

Heck, I will just order from Amazon or order from Wal-Mart online and pick it up at the store (if I can). In the future I will check Wal-Mart online before I make any Blu-ray purchase over $25 from Wal-Mart.

It's cheaper for them to sell it to you online than in store. Online doesn't have near the overhead costs (Same reason Amazon is usually cheaper). Online they don't have to pay all the walmart workers to be around the store to get it out of the case for you, provide security, work the checkouts, etc, plus you pay for the shipping costs rather than them including it in the prices like they do to items within the store.

As for not matching themselves, a lot do that. Target doesn't because Amazon runs their online store so it's Amazon prices. Fry's Electronics doesn't because they're 2 separate entities that run the online and B&M sides.

Yeah it sucks but what i do if im in desperate need is just buy in store and then order online for site-to-store for cheaper and then when come in take that copy back with the receipt from the higher one that way i get it that price and dont have to wait only if i desperately need it immediately but also want that cheaper price. Usually only take a couple days for store to get it so no big lost in money for a few days.

Haha! I've seriously thought about doing this. I ordered Cloverfield online for $10 less and they shipped it to the store for free. What idiots, while the one in stock just sat there for $29.99. So let's see they shipped both to the store? Check! I went to the site to store register to pick it up where a not so helpful associate rang me up? Check! So there is little differance this way except for price? They deserve for people to buy in store and online. Hell, take the BM reciept with you when your site to store does come in go to the back pickup your online purchase take it out of the padded mailer and walk right up to Customer Service and return it all in one trip. Then let some sucker pay $10 more for your online purchase. Stupid brick and morter stores just don't get it!

I saw Cloverfield on target.com last night for $20. I went down to the store to grab it and it was on the shelf for $35. They refused to price match so I just left. It's $25 at Best Buy right now, so I'm just going to pay $5 extra and just grab it there.

WM Online - Clean, Pretty and smells like rainbows!

WM In Store - Dirty, Putrid, Disgusting!

That's just my opinion.

True. However, where I live the in-store prices on Blu-rays (at Wal-mart) are LESS than the website. Walmart will always price media (and pretty much everything else) to be just below (like by $.03) most local competition. I live in an area that is fortunate enough to have a MASSIVE store that really pushes prices down. So all the Walmarts in the area match. In areas where there's no competition (or just BB and CC) Walmart's pricing can be just as high as theirs.

That's just plain retarded.
How do you not price match yourself? So your saying, Wal-Mart can sell an HDTV for 500 bucks online, but when you go in store to get one, you have to pay 1000 bucks because they don't price match THEMSELVES.

Stupid.

Some of the policies are so stupid. I feel sorry for my parents as in their town Wal-Mart is all there is (no target, circuit city, best buy, etc) and their Wal-Mart does NOT pricematch anybody.

Technically they're separate entities. Similarly, Target's website sales are run through Amazon.com... and Target will tell you that they're fine with you never shopping there again before they'll price match Target.com.

By the way, it's just Walmart now. They thought the star wasn't customer friendly.

You forgot, "or give you the wrong answer if you ask them a question."

I don't mind it too much. Wal-Mart ships pretty quickly and many times it's 97-cent shipping. It's a minor inconvenience in my opinion.
