Default Blu-rays on Military Installations

Today I was at the local Navy Exchange here in Jacksonville, FL and I was looking for FFROSS. I noticed they had a killer BD selection and both the Samsung Player for $449. and the Sony for $487. No tax... Obviously youve got to be military to get in there. But anyways...They didnt have anything HD-DVD. No players and no movies

Rock on...

Here on Guam NEX, they sell titles for retail. Thus, I get my BDs courtesy of amazon.

Some bases have more than others. The Airforce base here (Hill AFB) has a grand total of 7 BD's titles. However Fort Carson Colorado has 6X that....go figure....BTW I'm at Hill AFB

I was there at Hill last year on a TDY. I have a buddy that is stationed there too. What do you do there?

I do agree with you about retail though. But what is nice is the players if you dont already have one.

I haven't been to the Post Exchange here in Indy at Fort Harrison in a while. I may have to take my dad or mom there since he is retired from the Army and I no longer have an ID card since I'm 33. It is nice not having to pay tax for items there. Too bad they rarely have much to get.

The AAFES BX I went to in Charleston had about 5-10 different BDs. They were fairly priced (plus no sales tax). Also, there are no HD DVDs for sale. They did have players of both formats, though.

The PX here at Camp Buerhing here in Kuwait has like 5 BD titles. They are 29.95 each, so I am using Amazon. Even with shipping Amazon is the better deal.

You'd think amazon would be shipping free to apo/fpo's...it's the least they could do for our marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen!!!

The exchange here in Atsugi, Japan have way better selection of BD's than HD's. It was funny to see a lot of people who brought HD DVD players on base and got upset that there's only a couple of selections for their player. But the BD's were way a lot more. But somehow I don't know what happened yesterday they were stocking a bunch of HD DVD movies, probably all those upset people with HD players finally got to the management and ordered some. I've also been to the one in Yokusuka, since their the biggest exchange in Japan, they have a way bigger selection of BD's and also HD's, compared here in Atsugi.

I'm out in New Mexico. The BX here only has about 10 BD. No hd-dvds thought. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of ordering through amazon cause the nearest best buy and target are about 70 miles away

When I was down at McChord AFB they had about 25-30 Blu-Ray and only 5 or 6 HD's. Plus they had this "Sony Roadshow" that was showcasing the Blu-Ray players and their new TV's.

Yeah they have 2 different Sony TVs with that roadshow thing at the Naval Exchange here in Jax, FL. and two different TVs(one 61" JVC HD-ILA) with the Sony 300 playing The Wild, and a 50" or so Sony using the Samsung player with FFROSS. Its good stuff. They have about 35-45 or so BD titles.

I was just at the BX in Incirlick Turkey and they had about 10 Blu-ray titles and no HD-DVD. The BX in Ramstein Germany had about 15 on Blu-ray and 5 on HD-DVD. I was looking at them and some of the guys in my crew started asking me about BR and I have them sold. At least one of them is going to buy a PS3 when he gets home.

When I was in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, They had a nice collection of Blu's you could even buy acouple of Paramount titles. Maybe they didnt get the memo. But they had a nice HD-DVD section too, but they didnt sell any HD-DVD players. Before I left they just started to get the Blu Standalones but they always had PS3's. But all of their Blu's at the NEX are List price, so $35.99 that why I bought all of my movies from Amazon

God dammit..... Now there's going to be a fierce debate whether forced HD-Dud watching is torture. I think it's cruel and unusual, but let's leave this one to Bill O'Reily.....

I was at the PX in Grafenwoehr, Germany, and they had like 7 shelves of Blu and one of Red. Before Christmas it was 4 shelves to 2. I guess they revised their shelving because those Blus were apparently moving over the holidays. I even saw a few Paramount ones also.
