It looks like 'Via Vision Entertainment' is a division of Madman. They got back to me pretty quick about the Castle of Cagliostro.. maybe shoot them an email and see if you can get some early specs?

The shots of the cop with the scissors in his mouth were censored in the UK as the film came out during a very dark period of hysteria for collectors.

Fortunately later releases restored it .

That same censored UK version is also the version originally released in Australia.

As I recall, that particular shot (as well as some of the earlier shots of the killer undressing his victim in the gazebo) was only cut in the UK so the distributor at the time could get a 15 certificate. The film was uncut for any release rated 18.

The Dead Zone was released during a bad period when everything was getting cut and IIRC at the time there was either no 18 available or it was still an 18 on video .
The most likely thing is that it was uncut at the cinema but suffered these cuts when it moved to video. For a long time the BBFC were obsessed with making additional cuts for video.
There's even the possibility that the cuts were voluntary for fear of prosecution as CIC did with Videodrome.

I believe The Dead Zone came out uncut when put in by a new licence holder.

The BBFC were not open at all during that time so information was never available as it is now on whether a higher rating was an option .
Indeed , the video collector in the UK had a very bad time of it until the late 90's when the tired old tosser James Ferman got kicked out of the BBFC for basically being a one man censorship board who forced his opinions on his supposedly independent board of members which at one point lead to them all being sacked and replaced.
In the early to mid 90's MVC started selling NTSC laserdiscs in store , so along with companies like Laser Enterprises they were threatened by the BBFC with prosecution and had to withdraw titles.
Laser Enterprises were famously fined 10k for selling an import LD of Casper

When I submitted the specs to the database earlier I forgot to remove the previous members note stating that he was in contact with the distributor, where they had informed him that the audio track was going to be lossy, Dolby Digital (which is now confirmed not to be the case). Will this automatically be overwritten by me submitting new specs, or will I have to go back and edit to remove it?

I'll take a look and remove it, if it's still there

** Hmm.. looks like I can't edit it until your specs are approved by Admin. I think the note would remain though, but once it's approved I can freely edit the listing to remove it.

Comments don't automatically get removed. You need to remove them as part of the submission. They also won't be removed if you don't make a change to the relevant field (e.g. if your only change is the comment it won't apply, but if you change the spec from yes to no AND remove the comment it will). I've also seen certain fields where the comment seems to have been retained despite following the above (I believe it was the audio field from memory).

Cheers for letting me know this mate. I wasn't quite sure how it would work, I've never accidentially done this before. I just went and added Dolby Digital 5.1 as a spec so I could make the change to the comment field. I'll remove it again after.
