We watched it on HBO. It's a powerful film with superb acting. These are the kinds of films that unveil recent history we don't often know about.

Best film I've seen in quite some time.

Very disappointed with no 4K release, but will buy nonetheless.

I only made it halfway through this -- I found it so hard to hear what they were saying that I turned on the subtitles. It just didn't resonate with me, so I gave up. But I will say that Lakeith Stanfield deserved his Oscar nomination -- he was the best part from what I watched.

I'd rather watch a documentary of this very important history.

This was a great flick. Not sure how much replay value is there, but man it had me glued to the TV when I watched it. Didn't even take a smoke break, which I usually do on anything over 60-70 minutes.

I find I need subtitles with so many titles these days. The dialogue is mixed much lower than the rest of the soundtrack, and actors are directed to murmur and speak very quickly.

I thought Stanfield was brilliant in this role. It seemed like he was phoning in his acting in a few other recent things, but he really stretched for this one.

This will always be the way...Twinkie blockbusters are guaranteed 4K UHD releases, while thoughtful dramas for adults get stuck on Blu, or sometimes even DVD (last year's Burden comes to mind).

This is one that would have been an instant 4K Blu-ray purchase, but as a standard Blu-ray, I'll wait for a lower price, especially if it does not have the Atmos track. (The listing is saying it will only be 5.1?!)

I'm completely weirded out that they didn't give this movie a 4K release. It had some of the best cinematography I've seen of the last year. It deserves that sweet HDR goodness... shame

There was about 8hrs of interviews on HBO Max relating to the film and the story. The disc ...less than 20 minutes.

Judas and the Black Messiah Blu-ray Review
Dialogue is cleanly recorded for the most part, although Kaluuya's spot-on imitation of Hampton's staggered speech pattern makes the disc's optional English SDH subtitles almost mandatory for first-time viewers.

That was my problem on HBO Max, but by the time I realized my hearing wasn't going to adjust (as it often does when encountering dialects), I was lost and turned it off. And English SDH always takes me out of the film because all sounds are captioned.

WB really did this one dirty: no 4K, no Atmos, barely any extras.
And this was probably their best movie of the past year. I'm starting to believe that rumor that they're packing everything up next year and stop putting out discs altogether.

This is actually accurate. I was even surprised when Warner gave The Mule a physical UHD. It seemed like your typical BD-only release. You could say the box office results really helped in that decision.

GZvsK is getting a 4K with a commentary and an hour of extras. WB probably sees Judas as not a blockbuster, a film about Black political and community activism so the audience will be more niche. And as a HBO Max day and date title not released to cinemas in every territory, the box office receipts will be lower in order to justify a 4K. It’s financial

Howard Alk's 1971 'The Murder of Fred Hampton' is a powerful doc that first made me aware of the story in any detail. It's technically raw, and was obviously made on quarter of a shoestring - but with a lot of passion. Somehow that felt right for the subject. It can be hard to find. Facets put out a DVD a while back, it might be possible to order from them, and it might be streaming somewhere. I hoped it would end up as an extra on 'Judas and the Black Messiah', but it sounds like that didn't happen...

Yeah, it sucks they threw the 4K directly to digital only just like Just Mercy and Richard Jewell.
