Question What's Your Antivirus/Spyware Protection?

I've been using avast for a while but recently it has been locking up my computer when it scans and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Spyware hasn't been a problem since I've used spybot, but I am curious as to what everyone is using on their computers (namely AV, but list spyware protection too if you want). I used to use AVG AV a long time ago and I am considering going back to that..

I would reinstall your Avast, it is very lightweight and unobtrusive. I don't need some "Security Suite" slowing the crap out of my computer.

yeah that's what i like about it, i personally don't want a security suite. i used mcafee like 10 years ago and it was terrible. avast and spybot has worked great until now.

IDK how I herd about it, just tried it along with many others. But it's pretty name good, and is pretty light weight. NewEgg has an OEM disk for pretty cheap, under $30 I believe.

AV - avast Home, all machines.
AS - SpywareBlaster, although SB doesn't actually run.

Weekly scans with a few scanners for entertainment purposes.
"Bad" cookies are all that is ever found - cookies are irrelevent to me.

SB is free!

AVG Free does what the rest of 'em do, at a fraction of the price.

Mac is definitely the way to go IMO, especially if you are getting a laptop. I lurv my Macbook Pro.

That said, I have a Windows machine still and haven't run any kind of protection on it for over 2 years and with the exception of the ocassional tracking cookies, I have yet to get infected. I run a virus scan on it every 6 months or so as well as Adaware and nothing ever comes up. I use Firefox with NoScript and Adblock Plus and with those two and not downloading from shady looking sites, I manage to stay bug free.
