i want to get a mac for my next computer whenever that is, but for now i have to continue settling for vista

anyways, the problem (which wasn't porn) seemed to occur when i downloaded a recent spybot update. already tried reinstalling avast and no use.

Mac is definitely the way to go IMO, especially if you are getting a laptop. I lurv my Macbook Pro.

That said, I have a Windows machine still and haven't run any kind of protection on it for over 2 years and with the exception of the ocassional tracking cookies, I have yet to get infected. I run a virus scan on it every 6 months or so as well as Adaware and nothing ever comes up. I use Firefox with NoScript and Adblock Plus and with those two and not downloading from shady looking sites, I manage to stay bug free.

No! SD Helper is different from TeaTimer.
TeaTimer causes problems for many people.

I don't use either myself.

I just use Immunize and the occasional manual scan for kicks.
Never finds anything though.

I could almost go antivirus free. I haven't ran into anything in years, mostly from smart internet browsing. Did you try uninstalling Spybot as well? I would reformat if that didn't fix it, just because I am picky. You could try AVG first though.

Also, if most of the world owned a Mac then who would most of the world's viruses be written for? If you think a Windows platform, you are very wrong.

good point. and i cant even remember the last time i got a virus..long long time. i've always tried to be pretty smart about what sites i go to. i am in the process of uninstalling spybot too. i may reformat, i try to do so once a year to keep my laptop from slowing down and this just might be a good time to do so. i've liked using avast.

Same here! I use AVG Free now, but have used McAfee, Norton and Kapersky.

AVG Free does what the rest of 'em do, at a fraction of the price.
