United Kingdom Mean Guns (1997) 101 Films

Received the check disc for this. Seems to be a Krekel masterpiece unfortunately. A lot of DNR. Also aspect ratio is 1.78:1 (OAR is 2.35:1 I believe). Some scenes seem bizarrely vertically stretched and sometimes characters at the edge of the frame look warped.

Audio is LPCM 2.0. No subtitles or extras.

Film is as fun as I remember it though. Ridiculously cheesy, but a great 'beer and mates' flick.

Seems like 101 got the old 1.78 transfer from Krekel. He's doing a 2.35:1 version for his label since all fans of the movie asked about it and he even tried crowdfunding it.

Thats disappointing. Lossless sound but improper AR. German is OAR but lossy sound. This poor film is so much fun especially with demented friends.

I cant seem to find the German on amazon. Anywhere else have it?

Also what is krekel?

Blind pre-order bought this from Amazon. Arrived today and checked and it says like the OP mentioned that it is 1.78:1.

This is really annoying as I thought Blu-Ray was too good for this type of conduct and especially small niche studio's.

So are any of the Blu-Ray releases 2.35:1 with English Audio?

I know Albert Pyun is selling a blu-ray of it like this but its really only for people in America and not the UK.

I love this movie and this was the film I was most eager for this year since it was announced in January.

Yes the upcoming german blu-ray will be 2.35:1 with english/german audio but no english subs either. Although prepar yourself for lossy audio only and probaly a lot of DNR...

Exakt the DNR the Director wants (like EVERY DIRECTOR) and of course with lossy audio because I know the source and NOBODY will hear the difference.

This will be AGAIN the best release in the whole world!!!!!

P.S. And a lot of extras Btw, the US-Blu from Albert is an SD-Upscale

Have you set a date Oliver? And I personally hope you left the image quality alone like you did on Nemesis which looked great and can you explain why your Split Second looks worse than 101 films? And yes theirs have DTS-HD MA 2.0 which sounds better than your dolby digital 5.1 and 2.0

No, it's not better. The source was an old DD track for booth, like the most sources for audio. You think if DTS-HD is on the cover it's native

It is not.

Well your 5.1 had same audio in all channels to my surprise when they started talking in my surrounds and your 2.0 sounded very tinny/hollow but no need to debate this. Just my personal view.

You're absolutely right in the sound of Split Second. The Source was so bad because they made a mistake with the reverb in the whole track. It looks like they mixed left and right in the reverb-mixing. Thats the reason why we do always the originel stereo-mix on the discs too.

For this old filmes it's hard to get good sources because they have no good material in fact the owner never took care about the material.

Split Second and the whole Imperial Library was after the bankruptcy with a bank, not a filmdealer. There was NO material at all and we had to search all over the world.

Well you have literally sold me.

Plus to be honest I have never really been that bothered about DNR. Yes grain can be nice. But on the other side I never really had a problem with Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition that nearly everyone else classed as scandalous due to the DNR.

Albert Pyun is selling all his own movies as bootlegs.

Here is a clip from Mean Guns (with a link to the for sale email address in the link details)

And here is where I found him selling it.

I'm surprised it was shot in 2:35.

I remember it having some interesting visual ideas for a low budget film. It was entertaining.

In terms of Split second I think the best way to show it would be a screen grab comparison of both disks.

I'm 100% sure the 101 version of Split Second will look better. Don't mess with the image.

To bad there won't be same choice for Mean Guns since I want 2.35:1

Screen grabs of them both will sort it out.

This is probably me asking the obvious. But do you work for PCE, Oliver?

If you do, then massive kudo's to the releases you have been bringing to Blu-Ray. Any chance you could source a Widescreen version of Burt Reynolds 1986 movie Heat.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093164/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3

But also if you do work for PCE, could you post up some screen grabs of your release so someone in the UK with the UK disk could match them up with the same scenes from the UK disk to compare.
