Knowing PTA, there should be some fun features that consist of the deleted scenes.

I just hope Universal goes with the newest poster for the cover and not the teaser image.

Agreed! I swear there was an interview around Phantom Thread where he talked positively about 4K discs.

This brings back memories. I used to buy records there back in the 80s in Torrance.

Hmmm might be an MGM decision or it'll get a separate future release.

Universal is notorious for the "Blu-ray now, 4K later" release strategy. I'd hold out.

What about the possibility of a Criterion release?

Criterion has only released one Paul Thomas Anderson film, I don't think it's particularly likely that they release this one within the next decade.

I'm still surprised that no US distributor has picked up "Hard Eight" not Criterion, Keno, Shout Factory.

But at least there's the Imprint release.

Wouldn't be too sure about that. I wouldn't be surprised if Criterion has it, but it takes them years and years to release a title.

I'm not holding my breath for Criterion or any other boutique label. Universal released the Phantom Thread UHD a month after the Blu-ray, and in some rather nice packaging, too. Not to mention that the disc itself is still arguably my favorite on the format. So whatever we get, if we get it, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

that packaging was great, and i know some people don't like clear cases, but it fit that film perfectly.

That seems like the move. Do we know if this is finished at 4k?

I'm not completely sure it would be an MGM issue since "Candyman" and "No Time to Die" received 4K releases right off the bat and "House of Gucci" is lined up for one, too.

Perhaps Universal/MGM was waiting to see what the opening weekend performance for the film was before deciding on the release - after all, a number of Universal titles did do catastrophically this year and led to the cancellation of at least one 4K title (though did Universal REALLY think it was wise to sink so much into "Dear Evan Hansen" - and that's said as someone who didn't even outright hate it like others did!) and it's overperformance both in NY/LA and the selling out of advance screenings next week is enough for Universal to sign off on a release.

Or perhaps it'll be, like imsounoriginal said, Universal releases the standard Blu in February/March, assuming it goes to home video two months after the wide theatrical release, and then they release the 4K later next year.

IMDb isn't always the most accurate of places but it reads that it has a 4k DI

They did give us Boogie Nights on Laserdisc and it was their last film to be exclusively released on the format, if that makes any sense.
