I'm in the market for either a 203 or a 205 but before I go the eBay route I was wondering if anyone here had any other suggestions? I know lots of users have talked about having backup players so I wasn't sure if there would be anyone who wanted to make a little extra money in the short term.
I currently have a UBP-X800 and want to upgrade to an OLED and a more capable 4K player in my upstairs media room. I will use the player primarily for playback of physical discs but I would also like to stream music through the speaker system up there and so if there are DAC capabilities then that would be a huge plus. I'm definitely a novice when it comes to understanding the eccentricities of the different types of players but I want to learn and I think the OPPO would give me lots of opportunities to test different picture and audio settings. Thanks! |

Some people just want a particular gear for its functionality/reliability. You can push Panasonic or Pioneer at them and they will still say not interested. Usual reasons is the flexibility of playing video/audio file content (media streamer). HDMI input for interfacing to other gear. Still get the player serviced even if you are not original owner.
Stuff like this drives our friendly member dealer crazy! ![]() |

If I had a choice of picking one of 4 players on a table I could have between Panasonic UB9000, Oppo 205, Sony X1100ES and Pioneer LX800, I am grabbing the Oppo 205. |

Who cares. Oppo’s last, intergrate into a automated home theater system, used by computer audiophiles, easily third party regional modded, universal network player, and offers the best media streaming capabilities. You can wag that better picture till your blue in the face. Every player out there can play UHD BD’s fairly well, it just not as big a deal to the general public. The 205 is the ultimate model, with ESs DACs, including Dac inputs if you need to interface to a computer for example, included even a headphone amp. I have yet to see anyone make something that compares to the 205.

The UB9000 does have the better UHD video and 4K upscaling but not by that much I have an Oppo 203 and UB9000 and there is so much the Oppo does better that the UB9000 can't really even compare with it.
Yes the Panasonic player just offers the better UHD video and 4K upscaling and apps, everything else the Oppo 203 is better at. The UHD video and 4K upscaling on both 203/205 it looks amazing even if the Panasonic is a little better (little better, not that much better). The 205 though is imo the best UHD player ever made. |

I was just making some fantasy up I never said I would pay $3,000 or inflated second hand prices for an Oppo 205. If all those players were on a table and I could grab one it would be the 205 for original MFSRP of course which was great value. I have a setup of the 203 and UB9000 and I am happy with it but I would replace them both with a 205 as it's all I'll ever need for disc playback. Most I would pay for a 205 second hand now is $2,000 and not a penny more if the opportunity ever presented itself in person.
