Yep, this was first rumored last fall or so. Will be day one for me--another unique gem for my sci-fi collection.

Read the original book recently, but I prefer the film.

So excited for this. This has to be my most wanted criterion bluray in existence.

I read Roadside Picnic, although the premise is great I didn't care for it that much honestly, but this movie on the other hand is incredible.

This is unrelated but in Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach trilogy, although the author says he wasn't influenced by Roadside Picnic, Area X is similar to "the zone" concept and is also getting a movie. The Roadside Picnic TV series is also promising, the trailer looks great.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Oh my God! I never thought this would happen. I saw STALKER a loooong time ago when I was younger and thought it was pretty cool. I'd most certainly be up for giving it another go now that Criterion is giving it a remaster.

I sure thought it would happen, considering they released the DVD!! I'm going to have to get this and finally watch the movie. It's been pretty high towards the top of the list of classics that I've been meaning to see.

Mosfilm confirmed a while ago that Criterion had 5 of their Tarkovsky films. They also have Mirror and Andrei Rublev.

No, not an idiot at all; it's just that it has been rumored to be a future Criterion Blu release for so long that many have rightfully felt that they had already released it on DVD. I remember thinking that as well. But it was actually Image, and then later Kino, who put out the DVD versions in the US.

Hopefully this means it is coming in the next 2 or 3 months. Holy grail release for me, especially after the botched AE release.

I hope they use the new Mosfilm restoration (the one they have on their Youtube channel) but with proper encoding.
