Default Making the ps3 hard drive external

Hi I have just install a 250gb on my ps3 with no problems. Everywhere i see people are saying that you can use the old hard drive as an external drive. So i bought a 2.5" enclosure however my computer doesnt recognize it as it should. For instance when i go into MY COMPUTER it doesn't show up. Down where the small clock is it shows that i can "safely remove" it. When i double click on it it even shows that it's a "mass storage devise" So is there a way to reformat the drive so it shows on my computer or a way to actually store information on it...thanks

By the way even if the drive doesn't work it was a great thing switching the hard drive for a big one. Now i use my computer even less.

Use this to format:

If you don't have a program already. Make sure it's FAT32 so the PS3 can read it

I'd be surprised if that's the case since the manual explains how to upgrade the HDD with a new one. Seems kind of strange they would require the original for warranty under that scenario.

True but if you have to send it back it would be better to send the original HDD instead of a 250GB one cause you may never your PS3 back... but then again if somebody actually threw away a HDD then they deserve what they get

I agree it would be cheaper to send the original .. even if not mandatory re: warranty coverage.

I've also read that you can (supposed to ?) send it back by removing the hard drive first so that you don't lose your data in the shuffle .. maybe someone that's sent one back can chime in on that.
