Default Lifeguard (1976) coming from Fun City Editions

Quote:
From the Paramount library and soon making their worldwide Blu-ray debuts via Fun City Editions: Daniel Petrie's LIFEGUARD (1976), starring Sam Elliott, Anne Archer and Kathleen Quinlan, and Richard Benjamin's RACING WITH THE MOON (1984), starring Sean Penn, Elizabeth McGovern and Nicolas Cage.

Quote:
Lifeguard Blu-ray (Limited Edition Slipcover, Site Exclusive)

$30.00

This strictly limited slipcover is exclusive to the FCE website. “Every girl's summer dream.” It looks as if Rick Carlson (Sam Elliott) has it made. He's bright and good-looking. He's also the lifeguard on a stretch of California beach that has more than its fair share of tanned bodies and beautiful girls. But Rick is at the crossroads of his life. His friends and family are pushing him to get a "real" job but, at this point, Rick's not so sure what "real" is. Elliott drew waves of accolades for his sensitive and sexy portrayal of the aging title character who's compelled to reassess his life and career. LIFEGUARD has been restored from a 4K scan of its original camera negative for this first-ever Blu-ray release.

STREET DATE TBD. ART NOT YET FINALIZED.

Special Features
  • Limited edition, site exclusive slipcover with vintage artwork
  • Double-sided wrap with legacy artwork
  • Newly recorded audio commentary by Jim Healy and Ben Reiser
  • Booklet with new essay by Cristina Cacioppo (first pressing only)
  • Image gallery

Here is another way that LIFEGUARD was marketed by Paramount in some territories in 1976. This beautiful, photo-based, montage painting is vintage and is our slipcover front.

Great news, I've been requesting Kino and other labels to release this fine if modest character study with an excellent cast. Thanks to Fun City for selecting it.

When this was released in 1976, Sam Elliott, Kathleen Quinlan, and Anne Archer weren't well known.

Even though I'm not into 70's macho men with hairy chests movies, I'm planning on buying this. At least there's a beach and, um, my kind of eye candy

I'm finding with the more recent FCE title announcements that initially I haven't been interested too much. Then I slowly warm to some of them. Lifeguard is an example of that. Have watched the trailer and I have a feeling I will purchase a copy of FCE's release (there is some very vague memory I have of watching clips from Lifeguard before).

With the lifeguard theme, it's interesting seeing Parker Stevenson being in this film (over a decade later he would be in the first season of Baywatch).

I vaguely remember this. I had a crush on Parker Stevenson.

I wish they would do The Pirate Movie.

Watched it tonight, good film for sure. Fits in well on Fun City Editions.

The leading players (Sam Elliott, Kathleen Quinlan, Parker Stevenson, Anne Archer, and Stephen Young) are all charismatic in this film.

I haven’t seen this film since it’s 1976 release with a date. She wasn’t happy with a 30ish man “deflowering” a teenage girl in a beach shack…Yikes!

LIFEGUARD now carries a street date of February 11th. I was hoping that it would show up this month, but at least it's coming.

That almost happened in GIDGET (1959).

One of Sam Elliott's best films. To this day he says he is proud of the movie but is furious at the way the studio promoted it. They promoted it like it was some beach blanket bingo comedy movie instead of the serious character study film that it is

It's like a coming-of-age movie for men in their early 30s' who still don't have a good paying job.

I always thought it was a softcore sex movie based on the trailer back then. In a way it's like SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. With the male lead not sure about his future.

Now the question is which do we buy the IMPRINT or FUN CITY version?
IMPRINT costs $8 more but you get a nice slipcase. With their transfers they look good, but it looks like no cleanup was made. You get white specks on the film and such. Only compliant I have with them.

I'm holding out for the Fun City, because they might perform some additional restoration. Imprint will simply use whatever materials are provided by the studio.
