Default The Sitter (2011) - March 20, 2012 Review

The Sitter Blu-ray

The Sitter Blu-ray Review

The Sitter will be released March 20, 2012, courtesy of Fox.

The Sitter stars Jonah Hill, Max Records, Landry Bender, Kevin Hernandez, Ari Graynor, JB Smoove, Sam Rockwell, Jessica Hecht, Cliff 'Method Man' Smith, Bruce Altman, Erin Daniels, and D.W. Moffett. The film is directed by David Gordon Green.

Quote:
When the world’s most irresponsible babysitter takes three of the world’s worst kids on an unforgettable overnight adventure through the streets of New York City, it’s anyone’s guess who’s going to make it home in one piece. THE SITTER is a new level of twisted and debauched hilarity from the director of Pineapple Express.

I'm a little surprised there hasn't been more discussion of this movie.

Did anyone see it in theaters? I do find some of Jonah Hill's work funny and amusing, but still not sure on this one...

Really enjoyed The Sitter - hilarious & offensive (to some, not me) film; I think you may appreciate this more if you've seen & liked the late '80's comedy Adventures in Babysitting (which The Sitter is definitely an homage to), but you could still appreciate & enjoy the film without being familar with that other movie.

Like AiB, I liked how The Sitter presented an exagerrated contrast between the "safe" suburbs and the "dangerous" big city...

One of my favorite scenes in The Sitter is when JH runs into an old high-school class-mate in that clothing store (this actress was later in "Orange is the New Black").
[Show spoiler]She recognizes him as the kid who got drunk & spewed in her late grandmother's urn at a H.S. graduation party. Hill initially denies this, but then she says that he ran away "like a little b%$^%$" when confronted - Hill, without skipping a beat, says very matter-of-factly, "No I didn't - I probably just ran away like a normal person."

I saw it at a screening on the Fox Studio lot, and the audience (including myself) seemed to enjoy it. I was surprised by the terrible reviews, but what can you do? All I know is I like the movie, so I'll be buying it. And I recommend it for a blind buy, but not for typical release time prices because of the poor reviews.

Aren't they going to redo the artwork and have 'Oscar Nominee' over Jonah's name ???

The day after I saw The Sitter in the theater, I actually met Jonah Hill in the Dallas airport. I was standing next to him at the snack counter and told him that I enjoyed the movie. He smiled and said "Thanks man." That was a very cool experience.

Looked a lot like AiB, so I will pick this one up once it gets to sane pricing levels up here.

Saw this in theaters with my wife and a friend. Other than a few funny but not at all hilarious moments, it was a very bland comedy/film.

The movie seemed very stale and often times painfully unfunny. Very by the numbers, play it safe type comedy.

I looked at the runtime and it says its only 81 minutes. Geez so that's barely a 1 and 15 minute movie. I wanna see this, but might wait until its really cheap.

I've never seen the movie and kinda wanted to blind-buy it but at the $29.99 retail price I seen it at I'm not biting. I'll wait for $15 or less and then give it a shot.

OR!...you could RedBox this movie for a $1 and feel no guilt what-so-ever other than you lost an hour and a half of your life

Just kidding.

I picked this up at wal-mart today for $19.99 (blind buy). I thought that even though SOME of the jokes didn't work, on the whole this was a very funny movie .... Of course what is more subjective than humor, right?

I just rented this and enjoyed it, dont get why it received such harsh reviews. It was like a R rated adventures in babysitting. I thought Jonah Hill worked well in this. Not saying it's a great flick but it was enjoyable
