I was actually very surprised to learn this wasn't already being done, because I remembered reading about it a few years ago.

That being said there are still a lot of 1080i RPTV owners who only have component around...

It was talked about alot. Got media attention and the studios who were pushing for it backed off.

Most likly in a few years, when people forget about it, it'll roll out from the studios again.

I will be one of those people that will be beyond upset if this begins to happen anytime soon. I have a Mitz 65" RPTV that only accepts component. I am in no hurry to replace it because it produces a terrific HD picture and it is working flawlessly.

The sad thing is I will shop the current stuff every so often (LCD, DLP, Plasma) and I feel the picture quality is no better than what I already have even though they are 1080P.

Heh, good call out on that!

Friendly in that, you go through all the "ease" of importing, paying extra, navigating foreign menu's etc. and then you get a picture that rivals that of your existing DVD.

I'm right there with you. I've got a 55" Mits and I hate all the newer technologies.

Same here. I thought that was the plan with HDMI, whoever didn't have it was forced to view a lower quality movie.

Because there were a lot of us that *****ed to high heaven that this was even proposed. It worked in that the studios decided to hold off on it. The ICT is as anticonsumer as you can get and even though I no longer have the 2 HDTV's which would have been affected by this (upgraded to HDMI sets this past summer) I still think it is a horrible, useless idea that only punishes paying consumers.

According to Amir a couple movies from Constantin (the publisher of the title in question) were authored with the ICT flag in place. It was an accident and was not supposed to happen.

ICT isn't supposed to be used until after 2010... and I'm pretty sure it's optional at that point.
