Default HD DVD firesale .. Combust?

Hi!

Was checking Amazon just to see how well the firesale was going for Toshiba (I remember some people saying the A3 jumped to #1 after the firesale anounce), and ...
Big Surprise.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_1?...A172514&page=1

First HD player is a Panny BD30K at Rank #8 (nice), followed by the Samsung 1400 at rank #9.
No HD DVD player on the first page.
Page 2, we find the Sharp player at rank #25, and the Sony S500 at rank 26.

The first HD DVD shows up at Rank #32, an A2 at $299. Wth ?
Did amazon do a clearance sale and is now fresh out of HD DVD?
sign of things to come ?

Hahaha, too funny! Maybe people haven't caught wind of it yet? Or maybe they want to stay as far away from HD-DVD as possible now.

might want to hold off....

If you look at Electronics, best seller #11 is their POS a3 which is a 720p/1080i player.

But hey, Amazon does not represent the entire market, and they don't mean diddly in the grand scheme of things.

I say let them sell, if people are that dumb to buy them, they almost deserve it.

It's pretty difficult to track things with Amazon anyways, they are a fast moving target, and the sales numbers change by the hour.

I don't know where you got yours, but if like any average person you click on DVD player / Recorders, and sort by best selling, you get my link.

Apparently Amazon doesn't include the discounted HD DVDs in the DVD section (but puts the Blu Ray, and the A2), but in the "electronics" section. Interesting.

Somewhat I think your link is "tempered with".
There's no way HD DVDs are going to sell more than the cheapos DVD player ala Coby or the cheap DVD upconverters at this point.
Again, if you follow a normal
* Electronics
* Audio / Video
* DVD Player / Recorder (by default sorted by bestselling)

that's what you find.

http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...f_rd_i=1065836

Let me guess ... you clicked on HD DVD, then backtracked to DVD player recorder?

Upconverting DVD players with Dvix functionality are great I remember buying a Phillips at 49.99 and played everything without a problem and I switched it to a Toshiba brand......damn thing hardly every worked! It is nice to see that even their fire sale is not helping them move ground.

Op: Don't know where you were looking but I see the top 3 players as HD-DVD players...

These ranks change frequently so it might be time sensative...but as the old addage goes theres a sucker born every minute. Apparently its still true!

Off topic:

I saw a few returned A2s at my local Best Buy on Tuesday. I got several odd looks from other customers as I stood alone at the shelf and L'd OL.

I got my link by clicking on your link and then clicking on the first player listed. The first player listed in your link is not actually the top seller in DVD players. It is number 11. If you scroll down to the link for the where it says
#11 > Electronics > DVD Players and Recorders, you will see the actual top 100 of DVD players on Amazon in which the 3 Toshibas are #1 #2 and #3.

The order of the players in your link is not the order of the top 100.

Because according to some, it is a game machine and not a DVD or BD player.

Funny, cause I use mine for both DVDs and BDs more often than I do for games

Since when is Amazon a leading indicator of any sort of sales, let alone for electronics hardware. If they started stocking tens of thousands or more of these things, then there would be cause to worry - but they don't.

My list:
http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...f_rd_i=1065836

Your list:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers...ef=pd_ts_e_nav

Mine is auto generated by sorting out best selling items in the Electronics / DVD player - Recorders and their rank, while yours is a special list compiled to figure "Best Sellers".

Mmmh. Wonder if one of those might be "sponsored" ?
If you seriously think that a HD DVD player, even discounted, is outselling a cheapo DVD player at $39 or a Sony upscaling one at $79, I have a bridge in spain for ya
