Is Blu-ray too early? 4k tvs at reasonable prices already. - Blu-ray Forum

The new Westinghouse 4k is only $15,000. In 2 years, these things will probably be under $5000. Which begs the question: what happens to Blu-ray? Will it be supplanted by a 4k disc?

Hope the TV does a great job of up-converting for 15k. Since it's not going to get anything in that rez native for some time.

"Only" 15k ? lol.
And all those pixels to just blow out 1920x1080

Thing is, HDTV won't broadcast 4k for ever (took long enough to see 720 or 1080), and we'll probably have to wait another 10 years to see a 4 k physical format, if downloads haven't caught up by then.

But who knows ?

No. How much closer are you going to have to sit to see the difference?

There are already diminishing returns for current 1080P and even 720P as a lot of people don't sit close enough to benefit from the increased resolution given their screen size.

If it were $200 I still wouldn't buy it just cause it's a Westinghouse.

They aren't very good at making TVs. Should stick to home appliances and leave electronics alone.....

Westinghouse 4k is only $15,000, right, like anyone will buy that Piece of Sh#t!!!!!!

if anyone really cares about quality than quanity, they wouldnt spent a dime on TVs like Westinghouse, so if we are being dead serious, we would be considering SONY, SHARP, etc... and if they were about to make 4k TVs, depends on the size, I'm thinkin somewhere between 40,000 to 200,000 now will u buy it? i'm not suggestin that you dont have much money, but the truth is not many ppl would spend that much, thats what i learned shopping at local premium electronics stores such like Sound Plus or B&O...

Well I have over 150 Blu-ray and I am not going to replace all of them with 4K Blu-ray.

This is just the typical case of "Just wait for holographic disc! Blu-ray gone man!"

When a home video (or broadcast) standard is created, they're expecting to hold it for decades. DVD probably would have gone 15 years+ if it hadn't been cracked wide open so early in the game.

There will not be 4K broadcasts (Japan had Hi-Vision back in the 80s, they didn't actually have HD on the air for another 15 years), there will not be 4K home video releases. These are for "bigger member" purposes and commercial installations first and foremost

Ah! So I'll need a 100" TV for 1440p at 10 feet! So I guess I'd need a 130" TV for 2160p at 10 feet

and u wanna know why SONY is NOT doing such a TV right now, but focusing on same HD while using a better tech and material OLED, cuz SONY understands the market, they know what will be popular and what is needed, at this point a 4K tv or anything to do with it, just pure STUPID!!!

I can certainlly understand why companies like Westinghouse would do something like this, cuz their regular products are Sh#t, and the only way to get them noticed is not to lower already "free" prices, but making something like this, which can only create media buzz but won't do no Sh#t to the consumers nor the industry, comapnies like this only follow and selling cheap low quality garbadges while making no contribution to the industry, I just hate it and especially ppl are willing to buy any of their products only cuz they are cheap!!! again, you pay what you get!!!!!

I see no reason for this technology except for the keeping up with the Joneses types. ie. "Oh I see you bought a 1080p 58" Plasma? Well, I just bought a 2160p 60" Westinghouse."

Meanwhile the 1080p guy is thinking," Way to waste your money a$$hole!"

Since most cinema projectors are only 2K, which is just about identical to 1080p but projecting on a much bigger screen than any TV, I would say "no."

While we're at it why not a 10k tv??!?!?!

Realistically I believe direct view technologies are a waste of time and I believe the best possible HD is HD that can be directly streamed to your brain, bypassing your eyes etc. The clarity and realism would be second to none!

Now THATS where the future lies!
