Default What players play Pixar Shorts & POTC3?

What current players, if any:
  • Will play POTC3 & Pixar Short Films
  • Are Profile 1.1 compliant
  • Are made by companies that are always on the cutting edge of Blu-Ray?
I've about had it with my Samsung BDP 1200 ... the Blu-Ray player that won't play the new Blu-Ray movies!

Samsung 1400 and Sony 300 I have heard stories in these forums about their problems.

Go with the Panasonic DMP-BD30 as a stand-alone or pick up a 40 Gig PS3.

Those two players have never let me down or much of anyone else on these forums.

The Sony S300 has NO problems playing any disc as long as you keep up with the latest firmware. But right now only the Panny BD30 is 1.1

My PS3 has the latest firmware... running 1080i via HDMI and I could NOT get past the previews on POTC until I simply fast-forwarded. Chapter skip didn't work, Pop-up menu didn't work... menu didn't work... it just froze on black after the previews. I had to reboot the unit by using the power button on the unit itself whether I had ejected the disc or not.

I read here that one guy FF'd through the previews so I did at at +30. Worked like a charm. I didn't buy the Pixar Shorts so I can't say anything on that puppy.

I've had pixars shorts since its release, and have had NO problems playing it on my PS3.

My Sony BDP-S1 played Pixar Shorts and the PTOC movies with no problems, though start-up is a tad pokey.

No problem with the Samsung BD-P1000 with the latest 1.3 firmware. Only the extras disk of POTC3 has an issue but not the movie BD. No problem at all with the Pixar Shorts BD.

Ditto. No problems with either of the discs in POTC AWE, either.

There is not a Blu-ray player out there that will not play PCM. So I am not sure what you are trying to find out.

I played potc 3 just fine. then I went and played with some display/db settings and had this issue. then I reset to defaults and the problem went away. so Im sure it is just a single setting or two causing the issue. I want to think it was one of the settings that had something to do with the black levels, but I havent verified it.

I have just received my Pixar Shorts and I was having a scan through on my BDP-S500 and came up with a real beauty.

"This disc will not play due to the region settings on this player"... or something worded similar (it's my memory you know ). Wierd or what as this disc is labelled as regions A B C.

I have not checked my firmware version yet, so I'll be doing that later on. Still, a region code error should not be popping up .

Hmm, this could explain the delay in the latest S300 firmware. Dare I dream 1.1 compatible for the 4.xx firmware?
