No one lives in the 90-year-old Hill House. Or so it seems. But come in. Even if you don't believe in ghosts, there's no denying the terror of The Haunting. Robert Wise, whose started his directorial career with The Curse of the Cat People (1944), returned to psychological horror for this first screen adaptation of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. Four people (Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Richard Johnson and Russ Tamblyn) come to the house to study its supernatural phenomena. Or has the house drawn at least one of them to it? The answer will unnerve you.

Classic 'adult' horror film film with wonderful cinematography that should look even better in HD. Glad to be rid of another snapper.

I think I'll stick with the dvd (looks really good in my opinion), but I'm glad to know that if I change my mind there will be a blu ray.

That's an Austrian/German site. Do we know for sure this will apply to the US? Similar situation for FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS in France from WHV.

I think they only reserve major A-list titles for special packaging, although The Haunting has been on many people's wishlists. Also, Digibooks are usually premium-priced upon first release - I don't know if a lot of people would be willing to pay upwards of $25 for it unless it has a bunch of extras, which, sadly, is unlikely. Give me a great-looking transfer and the trailer for $15-$17 and I'll be happy.

Not a huge horror fan, but this is usually the kind I do like, so I definitely see a blind buy in my future.

There is a nice director/cast commentary though.

About halfway through the 1999 version starts throwing out bad late 90's CGI at such a rate that it goes from being a passable remake to a total abomination. Besides great production design, it had a decent Jerry Goldsmith score, but that's about all it had going for it.
