Interesting... HD DVD needs to throw in the towel already.

Listen, the bozos over at Gizmodo are still throwing a fit over the death of HD-DVD, this is a classic example of denial.

If anyone wants the real and true scoop on the entire situation on the format war, go read Bill Hunt's stuff at www.thedigitalbits.com

This guy has the real inside connections and not a bunch of low level PR shills like the Gizmodo crew

People commenting on HD DVD-R as a recordable format for PCs/business have not done even rudimentary fact checking to determine the current status of the PC HD DVD reality.

The HD DVD burning technology is at least 2 years (I'm being generous) behind BD-RE delivery.

1. Try to find a retail upgrade HD DVD burner.
2. Try to find a HD DVD-RW spec.

I say "try", because in December 2006, when I bought my first retail upgrade BD burner for my home video editing/authoring station (a fast Desktop that sees yearly cpu/mobo upgrades), no retail HD DVD burner drive was available, months later when I bought my second BD burner to be used in a portable USB enclosure, no retail HD DVD burner drive was available.

Even today, you can't buy them anywhere outside of the integrated ones on a hyper-expensive toshiba laptop.

HD DVD won't even survive as a burning technology. It's inferior for the primary purpose- Data storage

that whole Fox getting paid to stay Blu is a load of BS.

the only reason Fox is blu is because of BD+, Warner didn't get paid they wanted the war to finish asap.

i hate reading about these payouts BS stories.

Although it is full of inaccuracies and omits things, it is still a valid article from the view point of a former HD DVD fan. they seem to have avoided the fact that WB says they did not receive any money for this move, and that Fox said they never were even considering HD DVD, just wanted to listen. Fox is too deep into Blu to drop it, and they are the reason BD+ is used so much, something HD DVD does not have.
But the fact is, they said themselves that HD DVD is dead in the water, and Toshiba needs to fish it out of the tank!

It is a poorly written article. Warner CEO already denied a pay off and asked where he could get his hands on that half a billion jokingly.

Fox has also denied a pay off.

It's the typical FUD of the HD DUD camp and gizmodo made it abundantly clear that they were biased DUD fanboys with Brian Lam's last article.

Why anyone would want to use the lower capacity and crappy HD-DVD technology for burning is beyond me.

I can't believe they are believing some "source" who claims that an "unnamed" fox exec called Robbie Bach (exec at Xbox division of MSFT). Haven't they ever heard of the telephone game we all played as kids? Did they even bother trying to confirm their source by calling even Robbie Bach?

Gizmodo are not journalists, they are bloggers because real journalists are supposed to check out their sources before publishing something as a non-rumour.

Delete the words 'highly' and 'trained' and I will agree with you.

That 'article' was a piece of unmitigated trash. Lies, bullshit and propaganda.

People who actually know what they are talking about (as opposed to chimps at a teaparty with their TV zappers) have already dismissed the Fox rumour and the payoff rumour as total bollocks.

As for the Businessweek piece supposedly backing up their fantasy version of events, here's the relevant piece:

Quote:
One source reported that Toshiba had offered to pay more than $100 million, while Sony bid closer to $400 million. But Meyer denied there was a bidding war and said Warner instead looked solely at global sales of both formats in making its decision.
One source? That piece was published on January 4th and since then not one major (as in credible) publication (web or print) has come up with any evidence or even additional 'sources' to back up the payoff theory.

I'm sure a certain P-Man will be able to shred this diatribe more effectively later on today.

Do the BD blanks also have the protective coating or is that something that can only be applied after studio movies/games are "pressed"?

Even if they did pay i see no reason in caring. They got the studios and took the win. Good on them.

One suggestion to any and all that are sick and tired of reading the ongoing FUD........STOP PATRONIZING THE FUD WEBSITES.

Whether you believe the stories or not, when you give those FUD websites hits, they sell that data to their advertisers as the reason they are a relevant site in the industry.

Stop giving them web hits, their income dries up and so does the website.

GAME OVER
