Default Complete list of Marvel Cinematic Universe films released on 4K

I thought it would be useful and helpful to have a comprehensive list of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films that have been released so far and then point out if they've been released on 4K yet or not.

Phase One

Phase Two

Phase Three

Upcoming

Unreleased

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

23 out of the 23 Marvel Cinematic Universe films have so far been released under the 4K format as of today (10/05/19).

I'll continue to update this list as more Marvel Cinematic Universe films get 4K releases. Please correct me if there are any errors!

I was just thinking about this today! Wonder what the rollout will look like with some of these films in the near future.

Perhaps if you wanted to you could indicate which movies were released by which studio and what upgraded sound format they're using?
For example Hulk and Spider-Man are released by Universal and Sony respectively and Hulk has a DTS X soundtrack whereas all the others have Atmos.
Also you might indicate what sound format they are upgraded from.
For example Iron Man 1 originally had a 5.1 soundtrack and will probably (hopefully) get an Atmos when it gets released.
This should be a fun thread considering it might take a couple of years to get all the remaining movies onto 4K

I don't remember that thread vividly but I remember going away thinking I'd just wait for the probably Disney release of all three, even though 3 was an improvement.

Yeah I just didn't feel like waiting for Disney to finally roll these out. The first two UHDs have a lot of room for improvement, but other than maybe an Atmos remix I don't think Disney can upon improve the German IM3 UHD very much. (And it's Disney, so who knows if their Atmos remix would even be an improvement over the existing track.)

Most of the collectors know that the German Concorde release was tongue in cheek...

Here's my theory on the 11 remaining to be released:
Iron Man Trilogy (3 missing) - no rush for them to get out as there are no planned sequels.

Captain America Trilogy (3 missing) - One is coming Feb 26th, and the other two on April 23rd. Likely something significant re Captain America in Avengers: End Game, hence the tie in.

Thor series (2 missing) - they simply weren't ready in time to tie in with Thor: Ragnarok. Disney hadn't ramped up on UHD catalog at that point, plus it would seem the prior two Thor movies aren't as popular among fans as some of the other movies. There is also talk of Thor 4, so maybe they will hold these back now.

Guardians of the Galaxy (1 missing) - again Disney hadn't ramped up on UHD catalog when the sequel came out. We know the first one is ready to go, and was probably going to come out in 2020 with the 3rd movie, until James Gunn was fired putting that movie in limbo. Maybe they randomly throw this one out to us during a lull in the release calendar?!?!?

Doctor Strange (1 missing) - We also know this one is ready to go per Director's comments. Disney had roughly just started supporting the format when this movie came out. Doctor Strange 2 is confirmed, I think we'll know more soon.

Ant Man (1 missing) - this is the only one I cannot come up with a decent theory. It should have come out last year with the sequel. Anyone got any theories/info?

Only theory I have for Ant-Man not being released is that Disney wanted to test the Marvel catalog market with their biggest titles first: Avengers 1 and 2. And they didn't have enough time to determine how well those sold before making a decision on Ant-Man.

EDIT: and with James Gunn now gone, who knows when we'll ever get Guardians 1 given how hands-on he seemed to be with Vol. 2's UHD (and since Vol. 3 doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon).

Aren't there rights issues with Iron Man and the first Thor movie?

As far as I'm aware, the only rights issues for MCU films are The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, as Marvel has retained or regained ownership of their characters and their films apart from those exceptions (Universal owns the distribution rights to The Incredible Hulk and has a right of first refusal to distributing any future Hulk solo films while Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man and all related characters).

If you're talking about Paramount being the distributors of those films, Disney owns the distribution rights to all Marvel Studios films. Paramount's logo is left on the Phase 1 films and Iron Man 3 because of Marvel's pre-existing six-film distribution contract with Paramount. Disney and Paramount reached an agreement following Disney's purchase of Marvel allowing Disney to distribute the movies in exchange for Paramount's logo being left on and a cut of the box office. With the six-film contract fulfilled by Iron Man 3, Paramount's logo was dropped from all future Marvel films.

This makes sense to me.

I thought James Gunn and/or the cinematographer had taken to twitter saying they had already worked on it (around the time when the 2nd movie hit theaters)? I seem to remember this being a "big controversy" that an HDR grade for home video release was basically done, but Disney didn't release a UHD to go with the 2nd movie.

Now, does James Gunn have some sort of say in whether it gets released or not? I don't know, but I could imagine that may get contentious...

Didn't know that. If Gunn's already supervised an HDR pass then it shouldn't be a problem. Disney must be waiting for the best movie to tie Guardians 1 in with (I would've assumed Captain Marvel but I guess not, or they were planning to but decided to let more time pass following the Gunn controversy).

Thanks for your insight! But, when it comes to the Captain America trilogy on 4K, has there been an official press announcement confirming those release dates or are we just going off on what websites are saying? I know release dates posted on websites can sometimes be hit and miss, so I'll wait to update the list until a press announcement has been released (unless there already has been one).

I didn't realize the first Captain America film was part of that Paramount deal, and that's getting a 4k release so it must not be an issue.
I assumed there was a rights issue though since Iron Man was released in 4K outside the US and without Disney involved.
