Not Going to the Theaters anymore for the Love of Blu Ray - Blu-ray Forum

Am I crazy? I will not go to the movies anymore. I will opt to sit out of Dark Knight, Cloverfield, 10000 BC, Iron Man, Wall-E, and wait for it to hit Blu Ray.

Why? because I really want to own these on Blu Ray, but the novelty wears out when I have already seen it in the theaters, and seeing it a 2nd time on Blu Ray is not that great. This is why I do not own Casino Royale and others.

Also $25 saved in tickets would get me a BD disk, and some good viewings at home.

Anybody going this extreme?

I understand on some, but you really shouldnt sit out Dark Knight or Iron Man...Cloverfield, skip even on Blu ray, unless its part of a BOGO. But you have to experience Dark Knight on IMAX

no. i am not going to flat out say i am NEVER gonna go to the theater. sometimes there are movies I really want to see when i hear when they come out, other times i never end up seeing it til i blind buy it or rent it. but realistically, the theater is a fun experience to be at. can't wait til the THEATER is in 1080p!

It's not as extreme as you make it out to be. If you make a large investment on your home theater then why is this such a bad idea? It's a normal economical idea that I'm sure MANY people are doing, including myself. However my girlfriend still enjoys going out so I still go out. Sadly I've actually never watched a Blu ray Film EVER from start to finish at home and I have a nice setup, I just don't have the time.

I really enjoy watching Blu-ray movies at home but I still go to the theaters to watch the block busters and the great smaller films. I am a movie fan and I can't wait to catch the movies when they are released. And if the movie was good enough I'll buy it on Blu-ray too. I have cut my theater habit in half though because of Blu-ray.

Dark Knight I'll see on IMAX (only). Wall-E will be theater with kids.

Everything else will be BD only ... and the two above are repeat viewers so also be getting them on BD.

I still enjoy going to the movies. The main thing that keeps me from going is the price of tickets! They are way to expensive. Although, I will cough up the cash to see movies like the Dark Knight

Home is bliss when watching your favorite films in blu. Especially when you have the volume cranked with surround and no extra chatter from the audience. I can even smoke at the same time! However, there are exceptions like with PTA's THERE WILL BE BLOOD. I'll only go to movies at the theater that I think will be in the league of say my top 100 films.

I still go watch the movies I want to see, as I don't like to wait. Some I'll go multiple times, and still buy it when it's released. Other than other people being there, I like the theater. Big screen with loud speakers. Just wish I had my own private one.

Isn't a theatre resolution already higher then 1080? At least the resolution of film is.

I thought I was the only one.

I will still go to movie theaters, but not as frequent as I used to. With the setup at my home, both the sound and picture are much much better than in the theaters.

I mean, I don't mind not seeing movies in theaters now, I know I will see it in much better presentation 4 months later.

with movies coming to disc so quickly after being released in the theaters, i really have no need to go to the movies, unless its something absolutely have to see in the theater.

the movies are not fun anymore with teenagers and people that talk through the whole movie. if i do go to the movies i try and catch a matinee or an early show.

I rarely go to the Theaters since i got a PS3 with my panna 42 hdtv.
Its like almost $15 bucks per adult now so i just see a trailer online and go with BR.
Ide still would go to the theater but only with a few conditions:
Prices must be on special, must appear to be a great movie and dinner afterwards is always nice.

Its just that i love my widescreen hdtv and br movies plus its more convenient in your home.

Invite a few friends and pop in a movie, go make some popcorn and enjoy the beautiful view in a comfortable and warm room.

We still like to go to the theater once in a while. We have a nice, kid-free theater to go to though - that makes all the difference.

With ticket prices being the way they are, unless it's something I REALLY want to see, I don't go to the theater. I just buy or rent Blu's and watch them at home on my 50" SXRD, and listen through my Onkyo TX-SR805 and Paradigm speakers. Even though people are boycotting Paramount, I would love to see Indy 4. Cloverfield I'm not too sure, I'm getting annoyed with the damn commercials. The last movie I saw at the theater was Pirates: At World's End.

Maybe it's a once a week thing. In any case, as I said there I had stopped going to theaters a long time ago and not because of BD but because my 9' screen home theater system is usually the match (or better) of any theater I've been in (where they run the bulbs too low, or the sound volume too high) and I don't have to deal with kids on cell phones and kids who think the theater is just MST3K, the home version. My audience of friends and family is also a much better audience in every way.

As Bill Murray once said, "it's more of a guideline than a rule" so I have broken it on occasion (Beowolf in 3D Imax just to see the state of the art) and will in the future (will most likely see Dark Knight just because... can't miss any DC hero movies). But nearly every time I've broken the rule I've regretted it afterwards.

But, yes, BD is now an even greater factor in staying home, as I tend now to think about purchasing the film rather than renting it from Netflix (as I've been doing the last three or four years instead) and the money is just about a wash. I'll buy "I am legend" in about six weeks for the same price I would have spent to see it a few months earlier and won't have missed seeing it in theaters at all.
