Default "The Queen" - Canadian vs. US version

I thought I would post this question to see if anyone on here had an answer.

I recently ordered "The Queen" on blu-ray, but when the disc arrived it was the Canadian Alliance version rather than the US version. According to the back of the case, the stats look to be the same as the US version, i.e. 25GB, 1080p, 1.85:1 ratio, English & Spanish audio, etc. However, I just wanted to make sure that this is not a poor quality transfer since many people have been critical of other Alliance Canadian releases. I can always return it if this is an issue.

Anyway, does anyone know if the Canadian version is the same as the US version? Is the picture quality and audio quality as good?

I checked online about this, but I did not find any specific reviews of the Canadian version or any other information that could clear this up. Thanks in advance for any help.

What's the difference between the US and AU releases? Does the AU come with subtitles?

Be aware that Alliance distributes a huge number of major studio titles in Canada including the LORD OF THE RINGS titles, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, HALLOWEEN, FINAL DESTINATION series...and probably hundreds more.

In almost all instances, the discs are the same as sold in the United States.

The vast majority of complaints are directed at that small number of discs that are Canadian exclusives to Alliance.

In the U.S., it's these exclusives which attract most of the attention which leads to the mistaken belief that most of what Alliance puts out is sub par. Nobody is really interested in comparing the Universal release of Shaun of the Dead to the Alliance release...because they are the same. So the opinion of Alliance is based almost entirely on some poor Canadian exclusive releases.

In fact, 95% of what Alliance sells is exactly what you get on disc in the U.S..

The only time Alliance releases should be of concern is if said release had a Canada exclusive release before the ALWAYS eventual U.S. release.

When Alliance gets to release a title in Canada prior to the studio that does so in the U.S., Alliance must invest in their own BD authoring, thus requiring their own digital transfer of the film. If it is a simultaneous release for both countries, Alliance gets the authoring and transfer prepared by the U.S. distribution studio.

Ironically the U.S. BD is not the best version of The Queen. It has been released in another country with much better specs, though I can't recall off the top of my head which release it is.

I would think either the German or Australian release, perhaps?

I’m expecting Paramount to re-release this soon since they have the Miramax library now.

Came here to ask about that, as there's a Paramount version from 2021. But it seems harder to find than the original 2006 Disney release.

Does anyone know if it has the British historian commentary track? I'm not sure whether I should be in panic-buy mode for this one or not.

This says the Paramount is MoD: https://www.importcds.com/the-queen/810072543158

Would explain why it's less available, but does that mean BD-R or pressed? Still not sure about the commentary, either.

Most of the Paramount MOD from this release date have been pressed. The picture certainly has the std BD logo for pressed disc which most studios do tend to use to differentiated from Burned Titles
