Default The Arrival

I read that THE ARRIVAL will be released on Blu-ray April 21. A great science fiction movie. Any other fans out there?

Enjoy the first install. There was a second, can't remember (Second Arrival ?), without Charlie Sheen was so-so.

The second one wasn't worth watching but I loved the first one. I've burned a hole through my SD DVD copy.

I think my original DVD is non-anamorphic so this will be a no-brainer for me. April can't come soon enough!

The Arrival = VERY cool flick! The movie never slows down, and the ending is great.

The Arrival II was a utter dud (which is realized within moments of its beginning, and never recovers).

I have an older widescreen DVD release with both movies on it.

The Arrival on BD would be a fine add for many people, and all sci-fi fanatics!

I also agree it's a cool film. I will get it when it's out.

Oh man that is good news. The DVD versions are pretty lackluster. I got the German PAL anamorphic one which I believe was the best around, but it is nothing to sing about.

Oh yeah, GREAT film, second from writer-director David Twohy (after Timescape aka Grand Tour: Disaster in Time and before Pitch Black/Below/Chronicles of Riddick). What the X-Files movies SHOULD have been like - although I'll admit the first does have some similarities to The Arrival.

Replacing the 2 films/1 disc set with a decent BD would be lovely. If we could have all of Twohy's films on BD, I would not be unhappy.

I never thought that this one would be selected for a blu transfer either. I can't wait for 4/21.

This is a nice little flick. Charlie Sheen did a good job. Glad to see it will debut on Blu soon.

Yeah, that bemuses me as well. I am a long time sci fi buff (from books as a child) and it was was a solid probably more mature take on alien invasion. As opposed to the other Alien invasion film of that year (Independence Day (which I love also, but in an action way, not sci fi))

Very nice! I was wondering about this one a little while ago but thought it would probably be a while before it gets released on Blu-Ray. Definitely an underated film.

Default The Arrival PQ

I watched The Arrival last night. I had never seen it so I thought I would Netflix it for a popcorn sci-fi evening. I wont get into the movie itself, but boy was the PQ a major let down. Charlie Sheens facial complection looked like a Barbi Doll. The Blacks were gray at best. Except for a very few scenes, the picture was washed out and hazy. I understand that PQ varies for many many reasons, but this sure looks like a dropped ball. I wont claim to know the technical reasons for its poor appearance, but its the worst Blu-ray I have seen. I have not seen Gangs of New York, but some of the complaints I heard about that film seem to be present here as well. If your a fan of the movie I'd rent it first...just in case.

Oh, the AQ was very good.

I remember watching this movie when it came out (when I was a teen) and thinking it was decent. Problem is, too many movies after not seeing them in 10-12 years just don't have the same effect on me. I'm thinking this one may be one of those.

Thanks for the heads up on PQ/AQ.

You are welcome. Thats why I started the thread, not to bash, but to warn.

RE: the film, I thought the execution was too light and fluffy for the concept. Could have been really good.
