In 1988, John Cleese, former Python and the mastermind behind Fawlty Towers, teamed up with the veteran Ealing Comedy director Charles Crichton (The Lavender Hill Mob) to produce another classic of British comedy.

Cleese plays Archie Leach, a weak-willed barrister who finds himself embroiled with a quartet of ill-matched jewel thieves – two American con artists played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline, Michael Palin’s animal-loving hitman and London gangster Tom Georgeson – when Georgeson is arrested. Only he and Palin know the whereabouts of the diamonds, prompting plenty of farce and in-fighting as well as some embarrassing nudity and the unfortunate demise of some innocent pooches…

If memory serves, the PQ is OK. But for me it was worthwhile to finally get version in Widescreen.

I bought the Vudu version awhile ago, which is also widescreen. Looks OK actually...just not sure how it compares to the blu-ray.

This is a huge release for me. Love this movie but never even got the other Blu-ray because of the disappointing quality. Will be getting this day one for sure.

A Fish Called Wanda is one of those movies one would assume would be in everyone's collections. I always stopped short of picking up the existing Blu because of the lackluster treatment it got but that has now been remedied. I'm hoping Get Shorty gets picked up by Arrow at some point - that's another one I've held off buying.

It's not too surprising since MGM seem to be easy to license from for the most part, but it is exciting. Always good to see the labels doing more mainstream stuff since the Studios have already reached the point of not bothering.

The current Blu-ray is derived from a bruised and battered print so I couldn't be more delighted at this news!
