Cool! Hopefully it gets a nice new transfer and carries over all the extras from the special collector's edition dvd

It's great that this is finally getting a release. Too bad that MVD isn't producing any new extras though.

Comparing their list to dvdcompare, it doesn't include the original 8mm short film (with optional commentary), "Slated for Success - The Killer Tomato Slate Girl" (featurette), "Production Design" (featurette), some karaoke stuff that sounds pretty skippable, nor these snippets from "Tomato Mode" viewing:
-2 interviews with John Astin (Professor in the other movies)
-outtake footage of Steve Peace with his parachute with audio commentary by Steve Peace, Costa Dillon and John Dillon
-8mm film footage of Costa Dillon cooking in fast food spoof

Assuming they have all three deleted scenes, that's it.

R2 DVD also has the following featurettes, but apparently they're just re-titled from the US: "The San Diego Chicken Remembers AKT", "The Conspiracy Theory", "The Story Behind the Song".

From their Facebook page:

"MVD Rewind Collection #2: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (2-Disc Special Edition) [Blu-ray + DVD]

UFOs! Bigfoot! Communists! The government has swiftly dealt with many a crisis... But can it survive the diabolical ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the supermarket, you're face to face with terror so bold, so frightening it has never been seen on-screen before or since (not until the sequel, anyway).

After a series of bizarre and increasingly horrific attacks from pulpy, red, seeded fruit, Mason Dixon (David Miller) finds himself leading a "crack" team of specialists to save the planet. But will they be quick enough to save everyone? To save you?

You can't run! You can't swim! There's nowhere to hide!

THE KILLER TOMATOES ARE EVERYWHERE!

SPECIAL FEATURES

I gotta say, after all these years, MVD is finally getting their act together. They deserve a round of applause.

Doesn't really sound worth it.

I agree, except that I wish it included the original AKT 8mm short, can't understand why they'd drop that.

Ah too bad they dropped some of the extras. I'll hold on to the DVD then which I'm okay with since the packaging was kind of cool

If the presentation is 1080p and in widescreen, it's got to be a new master.

I was hoping this would be an Arrow title so I wouldn't have to actually pay for it.

I actually thought this would be a Scream Factory title considering how Rhino and Shout! shares a connection with its employees, that and because they released titles once belonged by Rhino.
