Default Sharp Aquos or Sumsung?

I have a Sharp 46 Aquos LCD 46D64U model with 3 hdmi ports- 10 000:1. It is a fantastic tv and the banding issues are highly overrated. However I am wanting a 52 inch.

And the model I am looking at is the Samsung T5265F series-3hdmi 15 000:1.

Now, forget about the size of the tv, is the 65 series as good as the Aquos?

Personally I prefer the Aquos. I love me new 37".
I'm eyeing the new LC65D64U, but I need the price to drop in Canada.
MSRP is $10,499. Ouch.

If the "banding" is not an issue, they both make good units, I guess it may come down to price and I think the Sharp is a bit cheaper than the Sammy.

I have the 52D64U and like it alot. My pull-down projector screen has 5" clearance from the wall, and with a custom mount the slim Aquos sticks out just 4.25" on the same wall. The picture is great, no complaints.

What exactly is the banding issue? The only thing I can think of is when I owned a Magnavox (for about 3 weeks before I returned it) I could see different color virticle bard across the screen. Each one was about 2 inches on a 32in set. Is that what is refered to as the "Banding issue"?

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I really like this Aquos, but a new 52" Sharp I can't afford.- it's like $2600 or something

I have a chance to sell my 2 month old Aquos 46D64U for $1400

and pick up a Samsung T5265F for $2000.

Should I do this????

So, Mr. Tyson am i getting this right? You have an lcd hanging on your wall behind a projection screen.

Yep, retractable 106" Da-lite High Power pulls down in front of the 52" Aquos as needed. Next step is to upgrade my speakers to Mackie HR824 mains, HR626 center, and HR624 rears...

Got my LC52D64U for under $2K - shop around.

Default Don't Even think about sharp

Well I guess I'm a new owner of 52xbr4 (butterflyphoto 2925.00 my wife and I used the old good cop bad cop on the salesman) as my card has been charged and the TV is on its way (due date 1/31/07). It has been a long and educational road to the 52xbr4.

I purchased the sharp 46D64U on Black Friday (1299.00 + tax). It was my first HDTV so I was impressed with the picture and happy with the TV. That was until I saw a 2" vertical band running down the middle of the screen. I exchanged it for the same, and this time I get 4 bands running horizontally. I go to BB and see their 52d64U display model and guess what? Yep a nice dark band running horizontally. Well I call CC and they tell me that I have 30 days from x-mas to exchange (how cool is that?). So I did.

I was/am a little nervous about throwing down that much cash for a TV but I did. I think I made the right choice. I've read every post in this thread and am looking forward to posting my results as well.

P.S. one other thing, that x.v.Color™ capability thing is amazing. As I understand it. This is pretty much a future thing, as no blu-ray/HD anything is using it. Except for the Sony HD Video camera I have (don’t remember the model off hand, but it is 1080i with a 60gig HD). I took my camera into the BB and plugged it (via HDMI) into the display model. WOW! The color just exploded! The guy helping said, "WOW" out loud. That pretty much sold me right there.

P.P.S. I don't have a PS3. I Have a Xbox360 (HDMI) with the HD-DVD add-on (I know, so don't even start )

Found someone that bought two through the Sharp friends & family promo, and talked him into selling one of them, new in the box, in December. At the time, there were some holiday sale prices that were at or below $2,000. Not sure if that price is available now.
