Angry Blu-ray player doesn't play PAL dvd's :(

Ok so I recently bought a Sony Blu-Ray Player and everything worked fine for a while. Three years ago I went to Australia for a year (I am now in Canada) and bought lots of movies there (they were PAL format).
I used to have a DVD player that could read these PAL movies, but this new Blu-Ray player doesn't. It only reads NTSC dvd's, which is very unfortunate for me.

Is there any way to make these PAL DVD's work?

Buy a region-free DVD player. Cheaper alternative.

Just continue to use your PAL DVD player for those or get a region-free one, as you are in Canada you should only be able to play NTSC on your blu-ray player. Look up region codes etc on wikipedia

A few region A BD players can play PAL material. Many people are waiting for this player:

I have the new Oppo BDP-83, and it plays PAL just fine. It's a great machine that should be ready to release to the general public pretty soon.

And how, may I ask, does the Oppo BDP-83 deal with DVD region coding?

I read somewhere that the players would be hard-locked into their originating region.

I haven't played around that much with it, as I've been pretty busy. It is region locked though, unlike previous Oppo DVD players.
