Default The Beatles: Get Back (2020) - August 27, 2021

Source: The Beatles Facebook

Quote:
New Film Project
We are proud to announce an exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and the acclaimed Academy Award winning director Sir Peter Jackson

The new film will be based around 55 hours of never-released footage of The Beatles in the studio, shot between January 2nd and January 31st, 1969. These studio sessions produced The Beatles’ Grammy Award winning album Let It Be, with its Academy Award winning title song. The album was eventually released 18 months later in May 1970, several months after the band had broken up.

The filming was originally intended for a planned TV special, but organically turned into something completely different, climaxing with The Beatles’ legendary performance on the roof of Apple's Savile Row London office — which took place exactly 50 years ago today.

Peter Jackson said, "The 55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to us, ensures this movie will be the ultimate ‘fly on the wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about."

“I was relieved to discover the reality is very different to the myth,” continues Jackson, “it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove. Sure, there’s moments of drama - but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George, and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating - it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate”.

"I’m thrilled and honoured to have been entrusted with this remarkable footage - making the movie will be a sheer joy.”

Default The Beatles 'Let It Be' to be released after new documentary by Peter Jackson

It's hard to believe, but it seems like this is finally happening after many years of rumors and false starts. Likely in time for the film's 50th anniversary next year in 2020.

Peter Jackson is making a film using 55 hours of never-released footage (and 140 hours of audio) recorded in the studio in early 1969. News Articles from ( UDiscoverMusic and Rolling Stone)

After Jackson's film, the original 'Let It Be' film will be released in a restored version, presumably on home video. There aren't a lot of details now, but this is promising to have multiple outlets reporting the same.

"The film is currently in production, though a release date and title have yet to be announced. The project is being made in full cooperation with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison. Following the arrival of Jackson’s new film, a restored version of Lindsay-Hogg’s Let It Be will also be released." - RollingStone.com

It would be awesome to add this film to any Beatle fan's Blu-ray collection. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait!

Using state-of-art equipment, Peter Jackson will begin shooting The Silmarillion starring The Beatles in 2020.

I know you're making a joke, but in all seriousness I imagine the Amazon TV series in development will cover parts of it.

This seems like it would be right at home on Disney+. Not sure why they're bothering delaying it so far away. I'm sure it would do well at the box office, but nowhere near as well as Hamilton would have.

Wow. Really looking forward to this. I hope there will be a lot of the rooftop performances included.

This sounds great, but what's the icing on the cake is the original 1970 film 'Let It Be' will also be released. Hopefully it'll be a hell of an upgrade from the VHS/LD release!

It'll be a revelation. Like Woodstock, it's at times a multi-panel film, something that was not transferred properly to the LD/VHS, so it's never really been seen properly since 1970.

I'm looking forward to it! I have the super cropped CED version (and a rip of the similar LD), but I've seen samples of what the original should look like, so I'm very excited!

This is a sensational announcement. If they're making a single film, we can only hope that there will be an extensive list of extras in the video release. 55 hours!

Having trawled my way through all the Get Back / Let It Be sessions on bootlegs over the years, they'll have a hard time finding anything of interest that hasn't been seen before
