Thumbs up Diary of the Dead - Review

What's up guys? I got my copy of Diary of the Dead yesterday. And since I have not seen any reviews on this site, here you go.

MOVIE 4.0
PQ 5.0
SQ 4.5
SF 3.5

I did not watch this until now and I was actually impressed with the movie. I love Night, adore Dawn, hate Day, and on the fence about Land. And I can actually say that I love this one too. This blu-ray has some of the best PQ that I have seen so far. Very clear and detailed. The sound is all over the place in my theater room. If you like the series and have not seen this, might be worth picking up. I was really impressed with it.

I also got Rob Zombie's Halloween and The Strangers with this. I plan on watching them today and will post reviews of each if I get a chance.

Good to hear that. I own the DVD and am on the fence about the BD. According to HDD, the Halloween remake was horrible movie wise but had good video and audio.

Well, that all depends on who you ask. I love the original, but I really liked the remake, so I will be buying the BD. Most people either like it or hate it.

I haven't seen this one either, looks interesting. I agree with your rankings of the previous movies, except I was say I tolerate Day, and am on the fence about Land of the dead...the whole skyflowers things... ugh..

Is this movie filmed like Cloverfield or is it like a regular movie? Don't know if that made any sense at all!

You should rent this before you buy.

I like the other Dead movies, but hated this one.

I tolerate Night, love Dawn, tolerate Day, and tolerate Land. Dairy was my second fav of the series.

And thank god someone finally does a movie with a handheld setup that isn't nauseating. Like the usual way they overdo it.

Default I Liked It!!!

I liked the movie. I love good zombie films that can adequately suspend my disbelief. But it can't be too bad in writing, directing, etc. or I won't believe it.

Will I get it on blu, no. I'm glad I rented it. It's not worth $10 on blu. Under $10...maybe.

Default Diary of the Dead

Anyone picked this up???

If so, what are your thoughts? (Thinking about blind buying it at Best Buy since it's only 20$)

I was honestly very disappointed with it. I don't know what I was expecting, but the premise sounded a lot cooler then it turned out. The acting is surprisingly bad for a Romero film, not that he's always featured A-listers but it really just looks like he picked up random kids from a college. They don't offer any fear or hesitation when they run into the zombies, they just plow them over or shoot them immediately. There's also a certain comedic effect added to the scenes that it almost seemed like a parody of zombie movies at times.

It also features bad CGI work which really takes me out of the movie, that was at least one thing I enjoyed about the Dead flicks - Savini did an excellent job with the makeup. This just seemed cheap.

Diary is fun if you're a Romera or dead fan. Otherwise it's just another Blair Witch wannabe with a little tweaking and bigger production values, although it's still characterized by lots of SD footage and shaky cameras. Considering how little press it received, I enjoyed it. The script isn't bad, despite some pretentious acting, but ultimately in absence of the kind of budget given to Land, I hoped for something fresher from the legend himself.

IMO, it's dead (not pun intended) last when ranking Romero's zombie films.

I'm a fan of Romero's films, but I'm glad I rented this one first.

In my books, Romero's second best film after Dawn. Just my opinion though.
