USA The Dark Half 4K UHD (1993) (Vinegar Syndrome)

Quote:
This special limited edition 2-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray set comes with a hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Black Coffiend), includes a 40-page perfect bound book and is limited to 10,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Thad Beaumont is tired of writing trashy pulp novels under the pseudonym “George Stark” in order to make a living. Yearning to focus solely on scribing the intellectually stimulating literature he enjoys, Thad decides to - literally - bury his alter ego in a figurative attempt to finally break free of lucrative lowbrow temptations. However, George isn’t prepared to be laid to rest and miraculously resurrects himself out of Thad’s subconscious, fully transforming into a flesh-and-blood double and going on a grisly murder spree straight out of one of his own novels. With the police convinced that Thad is behind the series of bizarre killings, he is forced to confront his inner demons and determine where the real Thad ends and the “real” George begins in an attempt to put an end to George Stark’s rampage.

Based on the thrilling novel by Stephen King (Carrie, The Shining) and directed by horror legend George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead), THE DARK HALF is a tense examination of the violent and destructive nature of the creative process. Starring Academy Award® winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), Academy Award® nominee Amy Madigan (Twice in a Lifetime, Field of Dreams), and Academy Award© nominee Julie Harris (The Member of the Wedding, The Haunting), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring THE DARK HALF to 4K UHD, in a brand new cinematographer-approved restoration of its 35mm camera negative and featuring a comprehensive selection of new and archival extras, including never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

Barton Fink, The Dark Half, and Secret Window are the unofficial writer's horror trilogy.

Haven't seen this since it came out.
I remember thinking it was "alright", but overall kind of 'mid'.
Good book, though.

Lifelong Romero fan, and funny enough, this is the ONLY of his films I've never seen. No real reason why, just have owned it and never watched it. I've heard mixed things, and always felt like Desmond in Lost, waiting to read that "one last book". I am glad that I will get to see it in what is probably the best it's going to look on home video, so I bought it.

Great development. 4k scan from the ocn, I’m having this! Scratch another title off my Stephen King 4k wants list. The cover does kinda look like it belongs to an early ‘80s Italian zombie gore-horror flick.

Not my favorite Romero (I do like it a LOT) but his best looking one, cinematography wise. And I love Christopher Young’s score. Preordered instantly with Let’s Scare Jessica to Death.

Well individual taste and all that, but I really like it myself, especially the back art, which I think is great. And the inner slip case works really well with the theme.

Here is a Romero film we needed on 4K, glad Vinegar is doing it. Should look amazing. Fantastic package design as well. I could see how people may not like it, different strokes and all, but it’s not poorly done. In fact, it’s very well executed.

Took the words out of my mouth. I remember thinking it was 'quite good' when it was released at the cinemas, but yeah..... the book was much better.

I just watched the Scream Factory Blu-ray recently and it looked *rough* so this will be a definite upgrade.

I believe this is the first King story (not including the doc from Dark Star) on disc from VS, isn't it? Either way, a must own at some point. I'll watch the numbers and if it gets low, pay full price. If not, I'll grab it on sale

If they got rid of the skull it would look better IMO.

I never watched my SF Blu-ray but I'll remedy that this weekend. Probably don't need two copies of this film.

The SF release is OOP so sell it to fund the VS and wait for that to arrive before watching it. Beneath the YouTube compression and 2K SDR downsampling, there is a gorgeous transfer here just waiting to be given life on a BD-66/BD-100.
