USA The Knick (Cinemax) -- Season One TBA

This is an excellent, fascinating ten-episode series from Steven Soderbergh, and Clive Owen is fantastic in his role as Dr. John Thackery.

Cinemax has aired all but the last episode so far, with the season finale set for next Friday. Apparently, they ordered a second season back in July, well before the series premiered, and it definitely deserves further episodes.

It takes something pretty special to get me to buy TV on BLU

This is that kind of special. Soderbergh has never been better imo.

For my money this is one of the best series on TV at the moment.

Great cast and beautifully shot. Soderbergh's pulled a masterstroke with this series.

The music is marvellous. In the same way that Oxygene seemed wildly out of place in Gallipoli, but worked wonderfully, the incongruous synthesised score to this series is nonetheless is a perfect fit.

Definite buy for me. I'm sure the $72 price point will drop significantly.

I liked it, but not enough for that price. I'll wait until Black Friday if it doesn't drop significantly.

Soderbergh? Cool. Say no more. Did not know he created this show. Saw ads for it on Foxtel but it did not intrigue me…The show was broadcast on the BBC drama cable channel in Australia.
Might just have to buy this one and at it to the list of TV BDs to watch. Especially since it will be getting an Aussie release.

Intrigued with the R-rating. Never seen a show get a classification of R due to realistic surgical procedures...

He also directed every episode. And yeah, some of the procedures can get pretty gruesome

From what I've read, it's not a conventional TV show, it's much more like a 10-hour movie. There's no showrunner/creator in the conventional sense.

Soderbergh directed, shot, and edited the whole thing, as he always does.

He had the two writers, Amiel & Begler, write the entire 10-hour season before anything was filmed, as with a feature, and they actually shot out everything they needed at each location for the whole 10-hour run, for maximum efficiency, again like a feature, they did not not shoot the episodes separately.

slipcover fans are gonna love this one. fat cased 4 disc set, gatefold (see: universal best of decades, birdman minus the velcro) slipcover that looks pretty classy inside, and the case thickness makes it look prominent instead of cheap.

the new advertising for BD+digital HD in the top left corner looks weird on both the slip and the art.

$24.99 now.

Blind-buying this to watch with the wife. She's a nurse and enjoys good hospital dramas, and the period aspect should make it more interesting. For me, well, I love Clive Owen and Soderbergh, so seems like a no-brainer.

Nice fold-out cover, might keep the slip on this one. Usually I put them in a drawer.
