Nice Audio Echo/Delay Effect (unintentional)

I recently upgraded from an Olevia 32" HD TV to a Samsung LN-T4665F, and noticed something pretty sweet (at least to me):

I have my DISH VIP-722 connected to the Samsung via HDMI (just as I did with the Olevia). I have the audio outputs of the Samsung going to my NAD receiver/power amp (old, but kick-ass technology). Again, I had done the same with the Olevia. But, with the Samsung, if I have the TV volume and receiver/amp volume near the same level, I get a sort of "movie theater" delay/echo, that sounds great. It can be an annoyance on some program material, so I'll just back down the volume of one or the other. But for movies, it adds a very nice effect. Now, in less than hi-tech terms, I'm assuming this is because the audio is "hitting" the TV via HDMI just slightly sooner than the audio output jack audio is hitting the NAD receiver. Fair assumption, or is there another reason? And, does anyone else experience this (or is everyone else working with newer 5.1 or 7.1 audio gear)? Thanks!
