I remembered these films fondly from my youthful days of bicycling to the nearest video store, but then I rewatched the first two on BD. I have to say, Trancers still worked for me thanks in no small part to nostalgia and a far more coherent storyline than it's sequel. Sadly, outside of a few scattered laughs, Trancers II left me pretty cold. I have zero memories of Trancers III; how does it stack up?

It's the best of the sequels, which really isn't saying much. It isn't as boringly directed as Trancers II, and much better than IV and V. Shot back to back on the cheap, those last 2 really went off the rails.

Oh yeah, I guess there's actually a 6th installment without Thomerson. It looks awful.

III does introduce a pretty cool character: Shark. It's worth checking out if you really enjoy the original.

Trancers 3 barely involves Jack Deth and the acting from the villains is just so weird. Plus it mostly takes place in an obvious warehouse.

Not recommended at all.

I liked it, not as much as the first. Seemed kind of self-aware...keep in mind it's been nearly two years since I've seen it.

Fair enough. Self aware is a good phrase for it. I thought it was too on the nose to be funny, intentionally or unintentionally, but also had none of the innovation or campy world-building of the original. If part three is better or (enjoyably) worse than the second film, then I am interested. I'll probably look to stream it somewhere first and then make the call.

I like part 2 and 3. But neither one comes close to how awesome and great the original is. Tim Thomerson is one of my favorite b movie actors, so I might be a little biased in saying I like the sequels, but they are a huge step down from the first one.

It was cool that they got most of the original cast back for II, but the real dip in quality is Charles Bands' direction. Everyone is shot laying out their lines in that same close-up. It never really musters up any energy and really falls flat compared to the original.

Thomerson is great. I always liked the Thomerson/Brion James partnerships in movies like Nemesis and Hong Kong 97.

I'm a big fan of Thomerson too. He's hilarious in real life yet makes for a bad ass Jack Deth. I wish Dollman wasn't so low budget and turned out better.

Yeah he's great! Really liked him in Cherry 2000 and Zone Troopers. And for some damn reason I always remember his role as the villain from The Incredible Hulk Returns t.v. movie.

But yeah, Jack Deth original Trancers, one of his best

Oh yeah. I remember being pretty excited to bring Dollman home from the local rental shop. Even then, with B grade stars in my eyes, I was a little disappointed. Still, it's almost more enjoyable to me now in a so-bad-it's-good sort of way and it's a kick to watch Rorschach chewing the scenery in there as well.

Indeed, Jackie Earle Haley really chews that scenery here. He really adds entertainment value and Thomerson's great. But man, is it ever cheap. Even by Full Moon standards. Anyone here have the Blu? Maybe it makes it look a lot better than I remember on video.

Negative on that front, but I should probably pick it up; I'm an unabashed Pyun enthusiast. Often in spite of the films themselves.

I like the original, but never thought I liked it enough to get the supposedly inferior sequels. Maybe someday.

Shouldn't this be 1.33:1 since it was direct to video?

Tim Thomerson should have been a bigger star. He's got great charisma and humor. I actually worked with a guy that looked like him and had a similar personality and sense of humor. He was cool.
