Cool Best Buy Blue ray displays

Hi all new to this forums.

I'd like to get some advice. I recently purchase a PS3 for the the blue ray player support and stopped by Blue-Ray display both and was watching the tid bits of previews on it and it was really amazing. Things came almost to live you can actaully see the seperation between the movie actors in pirates of the carabean and the backdrop. things look almost 3 dimentional on this display.

My question is when i hooked up my ps3 to my hd-tv ( its an older samsung 1080i dlp 50" ) i don't get that picture...granted it still great but not like what i saw at best buy.

I hooked my ps3 to my parents 42" plasma ( a panasonic ) and still cannot get that clarity

I used HDMI form both tv's..

what gives. any suggestion

What would i need to get that kinda of picture i saw at the best buy display.

thanks all

and LCD displays set to Vivid! I tuned the Sony display at my local Best Buy this last week. I got so tired of the animated look on real films. Do you want a more authentic film experience of the liquid 3D'ish look?

Edit: *cough* Blu-ray, yo. . .

Welcome to the forums.

Hey,

Just take your discs and watch them at Best Buy.

Works for me and they have some nice comfy chairs too.

I enjoy the picture from the SXRDs (Sony), DLPs and Plasmas over the LCD panels. Seriously, it's about what you enjoy in the picture so go check out the different types at a real A/V shop in your area and come back with some idea of what you like. I'd recommend a shop that does custom installs and has tuned their displays and can adjust lighting for your planned viewing environment. They should also be able to play the media you take them so you can try to recall what you've seen. Don't trust what other people like.

If you were in Austin, I'd send you to A&B TV. Great bunch of guys up there.

Edit: Projectors are great as well if you have the space and the money. "Gimme the casssshhh."

i have a 46in sony xbr 3 and i cannot be happier with the picture quality simply the best that i have seen. So im sure if you get one of the updated versions the 4 or the 5 it will not disappoint but get the 5 the high gloss finish is so beautiful..

You know that isn't your TV, right? Employees set those sets specifically for what appeals to customers. I'm sure they aren't thrilled with you fiddling with the controls.

I like the XBR series as well. Probably my favorite LCD on the market right now. The XBR 4 will be my next TV.

The Pioneer Kuro plasmas are the best displays currently available. For contrast ratio and black level, organic color, resolution depth...nothing else is quite as good. Except maybe that "Extreme Contrast" prototype Pioneer showed at CES.

I wouldn't buy a television or hardware, if I was not allowed to retune them while shopping. It's perfectly acceptible.

If your sticking to a 32"; the XBR is amazing, that's what I have in my room, but it is only 720P/1080i. I wish I would have purchased the 32" 1080P Sharp instead, I think sharp is the only one that makes a TV that size that's capable of 1080P.

If your going a bit bigger, with a 40" I would stick to the XBR; however, if your going 46", the new Samsungs may actually crush the XBR.

even my Samsung 32" LE32R86 gives great results, depends on the movie anyway : Hellboy, Black hawk down, Eragon, Into the blue have great screen depth ; Phantom of the opera, Dracula don't

Just about all TVs are factor set like crap really.

Brightness, and Contrast settings can go a long way. My crappy old Vega looks better then most of my friends setups until I help them adjust it.

Sony BD have an easter egg patterns where you can adjust some (7669). I would recommend Avia disc but you can get the basic settings from test patterns. You should look up calibration information. You will be surprised how much better your picture can get.

Indeed. Calibration, Calibration, Calibration.

Turn your sharpness down to ZERO (Sharpness is just artificial edge enhancement for VHS!), disable DNR/Digital noise reduction/noise reduction (Digital Noise reduction is made for a poor sources such as analog TV signals or DVD), and get a calibration disc to adjust your black levels, color, and contrast.

HDTVs look like shit without calibration, the same goes for Best Buy displays *especially*.
TVs look like crap from the factory.

I second the XBR's and Kuros. Ive been banging my head lately about my summer tv purchase, pretty much decided on the 50" non elite Kuro.

IMHO, for a 32" tv, you almost DONT need to pony up for 1080p

Do some looking around on the net and avs (720p vs 1080p), there are some good reads. Many times, when people replace their 40 or 46" tv with a 46" 1080p, it looks better because the certain tv may have better guts. This is the case with the XBR's. If the XBR had a 46" 720p and a 46" 1080p that were EXACTLY the same internally except for the resolution, you couldnt tell the difference at 10 feet.

Do your research and take your time, look at me Im researching 6 mo's in advance

There's a good chance I may opt for the 720p Kuro

BB calibrates all those end caps when they put the blu-displays up. I have seen it myself.
