Any recommendations to look at for buying Car insurance for the first time?
Also I think I might get get this one car but I'm not sure at the moment. I can't seem to nail down a coupe or a sedan but definitely used. |

You can call around for the least expensive insurance, rate will likely depend on your credit rating and deductibles. If you have homeowners or life insurance with a company, you often get a discount on an auto policy. If you just want insurance to comply with the law, go with the cheapest, just call around or use something like esurance. If you are living paycheck to paycheck, I'd go with a lower deductible and a higher premium, because if something happens, you'll want to have it handled quickly with minimal out of pocket cost. You're in essence paying for the cost of collision or comprehensive repair in installments. If you typically have a few dollars saved up that you could spend on such things, go with a higher deductible, because you will save money over time. |

don't why I threw the car doors in the question. I'm more use to a sedan 4 door with my 1997 saturn so I am sticking to that type.
Insurance to have insurance since I have no insurance other than Health insurance as mandatory by the health act. this will be the first major purchase for me do alone without my father who died earlier this year. I had forgotten about esaurance so I will look into that. |

If you are buying used I would try to buy an extended warranty on the dealer if you are doing a dealer like carmax that the guy from jalopnik continues to show:

My suggestion, would be for you to go into a insurance broker and he or she would explain everything to you and answer all questions...one thing to remember thou is if you are buying the vehicle out right..you can get away with just the minimum insurance your state will allow, if you are financing the vehicle you will have to full cover the vehicle.

You will need a full coverage policy if you will be financing a new or newer car and making payments on it. Prepare yourself for sticker shock as you are essentially a first time driver if this is your first actual policy with your name on it. In my state i can easily tell you your rates would be insane, around 2,500-3,000+ a year. Put it this way, i have 30 years of driving under my belt with one ticket around 25 years ago and i pay nearly 1,600 a year for a 2014 truck.

UPDATE:
I got my 2008 Honda CR-V insured from Geico and it costs me Just over $117 a month for coverage (I didn't get just basic coverage, I added a few other things). I took the defensive driving course and will receive a 10% discount to my insurance (so I should be paying just over $107 a month). |

You don't need insurance for that happenstance. As long as you are in the right and the other driver is in the wrong, as determined by a police report, you can sue them.
