My suggestion, would be for you to go into a insurance broker and he or she would explain everything to you and answer all questions...one thing to remember thou is if you are buying the vehicle out right..you can get away with just the minimum insurance your state will allow, if you are financing the vehicle you will have to full cover the vehicle.

I've never heard of that before but I will just stick with Progressive coverage when I get a car again in April. Don't want to risk not having the proper coverage on my next car if I get hit by someone else.

Car insurance can be overwhelming for a 1st time buyer.

UPDATE:

I got my 2008 Honda CR-V insured from Geico and it costs me Just over $117 a month for coverage (I didn't get just basic coverage, I added a few other things). I took the defensive driving course and will receive a 10% discount to my insurance (so I should be paying just over $107 a month).

You don't need insurance for that happenstance. As long as you are in the right and the other driver is in the wrong, as determined by a police report, you can sue them.

You will need a full coverage policy if you will be financing a new or newer car and making payments on it. Prepare yourself for sticker shock as you are essentially a first time driver if this is your first actual policy with your name on it. In my state i can easily tell you your rates would be insane, around 2,500-3,000+ a year. Put it this way, i have 30 years of driving under my belt with one ticket around 25 years ago and i pay nearly 1,600 a year for a 2014 truck.
