Default s300 skipping with dvd's

I first noticed this a month ago when it skipped during the layer transition in the middle of a film. It just skipped ahead about 2 seconds. No biggie. But I'm watching LOTR tonight and it's now skipping about 2 seconds ahead every 10 minutes or so. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I'll update the firmware as soon as I can get near a PC (I'm a Mac user). Any help/advice is appreciated!

Okay. Updated the firmware. Now, I'm no longer getting the intermittent skips - instead, I'm getting hangups about halfway through the disc. Strange. I have to actually shut the player off and reboot to get it to work again and I lose my place in the film. Anyone else experience this sort of thing???

I had that problem with my BD10 panasonic with rental movies but when I started cleaning them before I played them no further issues.

Thanks, Deacon. I'll try blowing them off before I run them.

I have a lot of trouble with Netflix rentals. I wash them with liquid soap & water, but, I think the scratches are the culprit. Hard to beat the price and service , though.

I actually got one from Blockbuster Online that had little tiny finger prints on it in what appeared to be dried peanut butter.

I have firmware 3.70 on my S300. It freezes on occasion (so far FIVE different movies). My discs are clean as a whistle. I end up doing the power reset to get it running again. I hope the next firmware upgrade will solve the problem.

Followup:
I reset the machine back to the original manufacturer settings(hold the stop and play button until it powers off) and reinstalled the latest firmware and I fixed the freezing issue. All is good now
