Default HMV: "Zodiac: DC" on 4/28, "Hannibal Rising" on 7/1

Yep, time to play the import pre-order guessing game again! Major UK retailer HMV has these pre-order listings up:

Zodiac: Director's Cut (from Warner Home Video)
Release date: April 28, 2008
Hannibal Rising (from Momentum Pictures)
Release date: July 1, 2008

Both of the distributors look to match up with the UK distro rights. "Zodiac: DC" will definitely be region-free. I'm not sure about "Hannibal Rising", but if anyone has confirmed the region-free/region-locked status of Momentum's releases, feel free to chime in.

But wait! There's more! Here's a bit of a bonus from Amazon France, but don't get too excited yet, because (a) this is an Amazon listing, and (b) the distro is Fox:

Braveheart [Blu-ray]
Release date: April 2, 2008

Now, the bad news for US residents is if it's in Region B and Fox, it'll be region-locked (lucky Europeans). The good news is that a quick check shows that Fox owns the rights pretty much everywhere else, including Region A countries like Japan. If Fox decides to be awesome like Warner and Sony, and release this outside of France, it'll be another big HD DVD "exclusive" gone. That is, of course, unless Paramount sees the light before April...

I don't own Braveheart yet, and buying it on Blu would be a good way to get the first copy.

Braveheart is an absolute must have flick.
I would love to see Paramount see the light before then though and release it with 24-bit PCM.

I have heard that the French releases have subtitles which cannot be removed. Can we find out if this is going to be the case on Braveheart.

I already at horror prequels that ritually have to depict the future psychotic killer as just a poor lil' well-meaning lad who was led astray by some other nasty...

But Hannibal choosing to adopt his restrainer face-mask because of a lifelong fascination with samurai armor?
That one is just so "Uh....nnnno. " in so many ways.

I would take Fox's encode of Braveheart over Paramount's, which is the same for Almost Famous and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which Sony is releasing in Japan.

I couldn't agree more. I made the mistake of watching this at the theater. It's such a shame that they have tried to milk every dollar out of the Hannibal Lector legacy.
