Default Anyone used dvd-wholesale.com before?

I ordered season 4 and 5 of Star Trek Discovery from there for a great price (~$20 each) and the noticed that they look like fakes - only 2 discs each and Chinese letters on the sides (see attached image). It appears there is no way to cancel an order so I guess I will see in a few weeks when they get here.

ScamAdviser says:

dvd-wholesale.com has a very low trust score which indicates that there is a strong likelyhood the website is a scam. Be very careful when using this website!

There is an official season 4 & season 5 set you can get off Amazon for $32/34 in case you feel bummed

There's also a complete series set for $60 if you don't already have the other ones

I have 1-3, so only need 4 and 5. I will get the real ones from Amazon, I was just hoping to get a cheap deal. Next time, I won’t order with doing my due diligence.

They have not charged my card yet, and payment was PalPal so I’m not too worried about that part. If they cancel my order I’ll be all set.

I don't order anything from any new sites until I get positive recommendations about it from people I trust and who know what they're talking about. And even on reputable sites like eBay I avoid stuff that looks like it's from China or looks "bootleggy." Japan is about the only Asian country that I'll buy from. China (and other parts of Asia...but especially China) is eat up with bootlegs..

Is there a dedicated thread to discuss scammy sites? If not we should make a list of all the sites that we know are good and all the ones that we know aren't.

I remember when I first found Hamilton Books. I wouldn't buy from them for a while because that site, honestly, looked sketchy at first. The site layout/pictures + the prices were giving me red flags. It was a combination of having that "look" and the prices seeming too good to be true at times. I was actually shocked when Hamilton Books turned out to be 100% legit. Not just legit but GREAT, in fact. If you run across ANY site that makes your scammer sense tingle....especially if it's one that you don't see discussed here much or at all...just don't pull the trigger on buying from them until you research it. It's not worth the trouble to save a few bucks. And definitely beware of anything with Chinese or Asian text on the cover unless you're already aware of what country the release you're pursuing is from. I don't think I have a single thing from any Asian countries besides Japan. I think I have a couple from India but those were actually Indian films and I researched the heck out of those discs before pulling the trigger.

The most sus site that I use is Mercari. It's like Temu eBay. But I've found some interesting things there before and they ended up being legit. Actually...let me rephrase that. There are legit sellers on Mercari. But....same as eBay....there are some bad eggs too. Even on eBay, I won't buy from a seller if they have a rating lower than like 96%. Or if their account was just recently created and they've only sold just a few things. I've never been scammed buying blu-rays.

I learned my lesson way back in my DVD days. I bought a DVD of Dr. No from a third party seller on Amazon once many years ago. I was supposed to be buying the 2000 special edition of Dr. No. It said brand new/unopened. What I got was a Dr. No that was pulled out of the 2006 box set. The one in that super skinny case. I was not happy but it taught me a lesson. That seller had a rating of like 80 something %. It was less than 85%. And only had sold a dozen or so items. Sellers ratings are not like grades you get at school. Anything over 70% is not a passing grade. Don't trust anything even in the low 90s. And don't ever accept being sold anything that isn't exactly what is pictured or described..

dvd-wholesale is indeed scam city. I learnt the hard way - my wife wanted one of the Colony seasons (can't remember which one) on blu and dvd-wholesale was the only place that (so-say) had it. What arrived was a couple of DVD-RWs with less than half the season ripped from some Asian streaming channel. Unfortunately I didn't do my usual due diligence checks (I was either ill or extremely busy with work, I can't remember now) and just ordered it. Fortunately I paid with my credit card through PayPal so was doubly protected and got a full refund.

Steer well clear.

They say that the order has been canceled and my card has not been charged so I think it is ok now. I will use this as a learning opportunity and will indeed steer clear in the future. Thanks to all who replied!

I've seen several different sets from this Chinese LG brand home media company up on Ebay over the last year or so. All the listings use the same angled and somewhat lower resolution image instead of an actual picture.

I could never find out anything about this supposed home media company so I have steered clear of any listings despite the prices.

Just to close the loop on this the site did indeed refund me for my canceled order - so while I cannot confirm if they are scammy or not - they did right be me at least.
